Back in the day when I worked in consulting, everybody but me and a colleague were chain smokers. They all would take 10 minute smoke breaks every hour. literally.

Years ago I consulted for a very large hospital group. (89 hospitals all over the country.)

I was astonished at how many Nurses and Technicians had smoke breaks.

They told me it was the only way they GOT the breaks. Some of them never took a puff; they's just stand outside, getting some air and NOT smoke.

Dumb work rules.....

I worked at a pub one summer in college. I was the only person working there who didn’t smoke. It would tick me off to no end when those guys would say “I’m stepping out for a smoke, can you hold it down?” Then leave me there by myself for 10-30min while they smoked and joked out back.

Guilty as charge. Worked in the hospital for nine years. Variety of positions and all different kinds of shifts.

And I smoked all nine years while working there.
