We will be fine. You know how I know? Because we have always been fine under Nick Saban. The thing about 2010 and 2019 were the injuries. No we may not win a championship but I will bet that we’re in the conversation until very late in the year. And with the experience level on this team, an overhauled coaching staff yet again, that’s a good year.

In the micro conversation though, I do worry about a lot of what we saw yesterday. But in the macro, I have to believe it gets fixed because it literally always does under Nick Saban unless injuries take their toll. Even in years like 2013 or 2016 when really great teams don’t win titles because of one play here or there.

Its pretty clear at this point there are no dominant teams. Which means it’s likely going to be a chaotic year. Might as well settle in and enjoy.

I watched the Barn PSU game. PSU got the ball with 3:08 to go , Auburn had 1 timeout. PSU ran 4 plays and punted , the barn got the ball back with 33 seconds to go. Bama got the ball with 3:10 , Gators had 2 TO’s. Bama ran 6 plays and punted and the Gators got the ball back with what 4 seconds? Seems like with the extra 2 plays even with the extra time out we should have been able to run out the clock without punting.
Anyway, I have to give it to BY for handling that situation without the clock and sometimes without a play clock! Especially with the unnerving crowd noise!
there were some shenanigans with the clock that impacted the run-off in the final 3 minutes and it took longer than it should (or at least seemed like it) to run down the clock. regardless, before the series, gary said if we got one first down, we would probably be able to punt away with a few seconds left. once we got the first, i knew we would be ok barring a turn over

To me the second quarter and the rest of the game came down to adjustments by both teams.

Mullen saw that we were only playing mostly with two big DL and the rest of front 6 were only linebackers. He started running alot more TE to double down and then brush LBs back. As we tried to adjust to that then he started releasing the Florida TEs downfield for long gains in passing. We never really adjusted. It wasn't like the Florida WR's were killing us in the passing game. Florida continues to run the ball at will and we never adjusted to it.

Alabama's Offense started with spreading the ball out and making the Florida defense adjust. This created passing lanes that we took advantage of in the first quarter. However, our playcalling showed that we had some unwillingness to run the ball (very un-Bama like). Florida's defense adjusted more towards a 3-3 nickel scheme and limited our passing. And we still did not runt he ball until the fourth quarter

Saban said the goal was to snap with 8 or 9 seconds left. I think our guys will gel or we will have 2010 all over again. I'm about to watch Pats v. Jets. The QBacking should be interesting...
Mac 9/10 early on. I just heard Tua is out with an injury. No idea what happened. I’m starting to wonder if Bryce is stubbornly refusing to run for Alabama QB historical reasons…

Like I said before. It’s hard to get too mad when you are on pace to win a title every other year.

Again, look at intensity - both from the players and (some of) the staff. I think the team fell into the classic trap of early domination and thinking they could go through the motions and win easily. UF had other plans.
Yeah, that first quarter looked really easy from our side. After that, Florida sucked it up, and we faded out. Hoping this is a learning tool about not taking your foot off the gas, especially on the road in a place like the Swamp.

I'd have to look at it again, but I the clock should have been more like 3:00 vs 3:10. I think the officials just took a guess at where to set it.

2 injuries are affecting the Steelers raiders game for opposite reason. Watt hurts the Steelers pass rush and leatherwood being out tremendously limits the flags stalling our Raiders drives.

Like CNS says, you have to play 4 quarters. Have to maintain focus. They did not do that.
Here’s several excuses for Bama’s DEFENSE. It was LOUD in the Swamp. It was HOT in the Swamp. It was very Humid in the Swamp. The Gators were biting In the Swamp. Steve Superior was opening a new restaurant near the Swamp.

I do not like EXCUSES.

Saban mentioned the heat and atmosphere as affecting play.
He did - and I am sure that it did. No matter how well conditioned you are, heat and humidity create physical hurdles that you can't get past with mental toughness. At some point it takes its toll. But both teams played in the same heat, and both teams train in the heat, so I saw it as him explaining why Anderson was wiped out at the end of the game. I didn't see it as him making excuses.

It has been a really mild summer here. Florida humidity is worse. So it is a valid excuse.
