After a rough night of reflection, I think that was the biggest wake-up call in years. We have the most talent in the game. What has happened? Are they not being developed? KD recruits well, have picked up a few transfers to fit needs. What is it? The good news with the new NCAA, is we can always do a FSU and pick up 49 new faces and a few coaches and be good over night right! WE are a 8-4 team right now (I hope! ) Got to be some tough practices and hell to pay on Monday!!

I hope everybody understands this issue is why I’m largely distant from this whole thing.
What player making more on his NIL deal than his position coach is going to listen to the position coach when there’s zero incentive now?
And if you tell him no, he just transfers.
Players have all the leverage now, which is why Saban left.
Nobody needs to be assuming that these folks can be motivated into obeying or following game plans.

So were Notre Dame against Northern Illinois.
So were 2010 ACC-Winning Virginia Tech when they lost to James Madison in Week 2.
So were 2014 National Champion Ohio State when they lost to a bang average V Tech in week 2.
We must have been watching two different teams and coaching staffs the last year and a half. The comparisons dont fit.
Every Coach and Defensive player should have to buy and wear these shirts all week.

I think we are the Alabama team that DID lose to n Illinois,then and now. That bama team would probably beat this bama team.
I agree, short of only winning 2-3 games this season he’ll be back, but the crazy thing is what would we be waiting for? Deboer didn’t inherit a team that had to be built from the ground up. He doesn’t have to change a losing culture. He doesn’t need three years to recruit his players. He has one of the best rosters in the nation. It’s not like there is one position we can point to that would correct the play Saturday. That was a complete team loss from coaches and players on both sides of the ball. I’m not giving up on the season but yet again Saturday was not the Bama standard and I don’t know how many times we have to say that.
I will say I was correct in my prediction of this game going like the 2016 USC game… I just didn’t realize we were USC this time.
You mean the Ohio State team that lost two games last year, one to Michigan and looked pretty bad at it (like....not even the same team)? There was a night and day difference between playoff OSU and that game in particular, and you'd think getting motivated to beat Michigan would be easy.
Someone at some point has to win the championship, even two or (coming soon) 3-loss teams. That level of mediocrity will be rewarded with expanded playoffs.
Now just to be clear, I'm not saying CKD doesn't have problems or doesn't need to change things, but did we have any kind of dominant team anywhere in CFB last year like say us in the Saban years, 2019 LSU, or the Georgia championship years?
I would note there are two other differences between us and Ohio State on that score right now:
1) Ryan Day had a core of players there already in his existing system, DeBoer was new
2) it's unlikely Ohio St or any other program might draw players feeling "entitled" to things like championships or focused on the result without the process to the extent Alabama would
I suspect that unless they plug the gusher, this is going to cause some serious problems in the game.

I agree that he didn't have to build a program from the ground up, but these aren't the days when players had to sit out a year if they left, either. And allegedly the biggest problem(s) stayed or at least one of them.
I agree with this in general, and the argument could easily be made that a good coach (which tends to come out how good the hire is in the SECOND year) could swing the portal and NIL to his advantage, too.
Yeah, it had a distinct harshness to the loss feeling along the lines of 1982 USM or 2000 UCLA or even 1987 Memphis State.
I need some qualification . Is this time to throw in the pocket or after the scramble. or Time to release. if your average release time is 2.09 seconds, you have really fast receivers, or really really short passes or great timing with the receivers.
He’s got enough talent to win. We are soft…that is it. Nothing else to it. No pride at all….we will see over the next month if I’m proven wrong.
I take issue with the a couple of things here.
I'll start by saying I don't think the roster is as good as people make out.
While he didn't inherit a losing culture, it wasn't exactly in tip top shape when he came in.
CKD DOES need to recruit his own players. It's HIS team.
Most importantly, people far underestimate the challenges involved in inheriting a football program that had the same head coach for 16 years.
