However, everywhere he has been until the SEC he was able to win with offensive dominance. I think he is seeing he needs a stout defense to compliment his offense at this level. He doesn't have that right now.

He doesn't have a top flight DC who knows how to coach LBs. He is a small ball DC. He has never had the athletes that can play 2 gap assignments. He has made us too small on the DL. He is promoting a swarm defense and I really see is a warm defense...

If CKD gets the defense fixed, I think we resume our normal expectations for what our program is capable of achieving.

We're too small and too soft in the middle. We need to bulk up in the middle and get more explosive there as well. Also, I think Wommack is in over his head.

Fair enough, those are inflection points at which the outcome of the game changed.
At a point in time, when facing a 4th down within field goal range, Kirby went for it. That was a deliberate decision at a specific point in time.
Dropping a TD pass and shanking a FG are not really "decisions" They are accidents by players. Going for it on 4th down when down by 3 is a decision by a coach.

Yeah with how tough this conference is this year I don't think we'll see an undefeated SEC team. Every week is tough this year like I've never seen before.

After the Ole Miss-LSU game they showed a stat that said, until that game, Lane was only 2-11 vs top 10 teams at Ole Miss. I was thinking, “yeah, but that is mainly because he had to play us every single year as a top 10 team. We are at least half of that stat line.”

Good point, but, DeBoer deciding to unsuccesfully go for it on 4th down at midfield with the lead could be called into question as well, especially if Georgia converted that 4th down and scored a TD. Georgia was gashing Alabama in the run game, no reason to believe they couldn't convert a 4th and 1.
Kirby said post game the reason they called a QB run on 3rd and 7 was because he predetermined to go for it on 4th down . It was a string of plays already called , thats why they went fast on fourth.
 
If this turns out like 1975, at least this year’s team will be given a fair opportunity to finish with the trophy.

True.
Evanuating DeBoer's decision (What was the score at the time? Where was the ball on the field? Are you going for nit while behind or while ahead?) does not require evaluating Kirby's decision to go for it (What was the score at the time? Where was the ball on the field? Are you going for nit while behind or while ahead?) .
Different points on the field. Different points in time. Different leader.
I was merely questioning Kirby's judgment when he went for it.
That was all I was trying to say.

I said it somewhere in the 2nd half game thread but wanted to repeat it:

Williams has got to start making those easy catches that hit him in the hands and should have been clutch TDs or 1sts. He has got to actually block people on runs and screens.

But the main thing I wanted to highlight is that after a few misfires in the first half, Williams settled down and really made some clutch catches that helped us seal the game. He had a couple of them, but the one that really stands out is the catch he made for a 3rd and long conversion at the end of the 4th and how he held onto the ball after getting almost immediately popped. Props for hanging in there across the entire game and I hope he keeps that concentration up through the rest of the season.

Deboer going for it made far more sense than Kirby going for it.

Georgia never proved that they could stop Alabama when they wanted to. Our problem was we let time run down and no one was on the same page on the play.

Georgia had no business running a fake in a 3 point game that late with the momentum they had. Kirby got greedy and paid for it

My biggest concern now for Williams is how he “attempting” to catch the ball. If you watch the deep ball drop last night he extended his arms and tried to “cradle” the ball in against his body and not catch it with his hands. That’s fine if it is a low throw or your extending to make a diving catch. On a couple of his catches throughout the rest of the game he did similar- letting the ball through his hands into his body, instead of catching it with his hands and the tucking it. He never did it last year. His hands were like glue.

It’s almost like a golfer that has the “yips” in putting..

Spurrier at Florida would put receivers through a drill using footballs with each side painted a different color. They were told to catch the ball with their hands and yell out the color they saw as soon as they caught it. It made them concentrate on following the ball into their hands, head down and eyes on the ball.

I know Williams has stated he was working on taking more throws at practice. But he needs some fundamental hands work.
