Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. IU...

I’m tired of hearing “wait until he gets his players” from DeBoer apologists. We just got beat by a guy who turned IU around in months, not years. He didn’t need time to get his players, they went out and got them quickly. What’s DeBoer waiting for?

Many on TF seem convinced that we have a great coach who just needs time. I’m not convinced.

DeBoer has now lost 3 games by 21+ points in his first 2 years. Saban had 1 in 17 years. This is unacceptable, this is not Alabama football and this is not the right coach for the job.

Lose a game, fine, but compete. 3 times now DeBoer’s teams have not competed at all. Pathetic.

Tell me, after 17 years of Saban, why did we not try to hire from his coaching tree? It has worked for a number of teams, we didn’t think it could work at Bama?

IMO, he gets 1 more year. Start tomorrow, go buy the guys you need to win. Otherwise he can start packing his bags next December.

I don’t know that DeBoer will win us a national title. For one, I’m not sure he’ll be given the time, and I’m not certain he’s capable.. However, the comparisons to Saban and what he accomplished are foolish imo. There is no more Saban, and there isn’t one to be found. He was a unicorn. To say that Saban is the standard for Alabama is not realistic.

I was too young to know what the first few years were like post Bryant, but I imagine they were like this until Stallings came around, who by the way, lost his first three games and had a 27 point loss to Louisville and a 35 point shutout to Florida in his first two years. Year 3 was a decent turnaround though.

I worry that we will drift down a bad path if we discard quality coaches after three years because they aren’t Saban.

People just do not understand that you cannot bring a coach that has never coached in the SEC before thinking they are going to do good it will not happen that whole coaching staff never been in the SEC before they need to fire deboer and the staff with him and make some phone calls to get lane kiffin

Please don't start this crap again.

I remember all too well. We wandered in the wasteland after Bryant until Stallings and then until Saban.

The folks who only know Saban don't really know what it was like. And if they start pulling an Auburn coach cycling, they're going to find out.

That's why we need to stay the course with CKD. Otherwise we can drift for the next decade or longer.

First and foremost… Saban vs anyone not named Bear Bryant or Bud Wilkinson is a comparison that isn’t even worth having. Saban is an anomaly. Kirby has taken plenty of blowouts compared to Saban… are we holding him to that same lofty standard or does the national championship rings make us suddenly forget those stats too? And no let’s not get it twisted… I’m not comparing CKD to Kirby. I’m just showing how any metric you use saban as the base then you aren’t going to find someone that comes close to seem even half way decent.

As far as the Saban tree right now…We have a guy that 90% of the fanbase thought was the worst hire ever (Golding), a guy that everyone forgot coached at Bama and his players are all over twitter right now calling his tough guy attitude as fake (Cignetti), a guy that was a GA for one year and was far more of a Kirby boy than a Saban boy (Lanning), and a guy that left Oregon to coach at his alma mater (Cristobal). Aside from Lanning none of those were either realistic or guys the fanbase would be over the moon about when hiring them. Also be wary of falling in the Saban tree thing. I remember for years everyone in the NFL was hiring from the Belichick tree and constantly firing them. But that also brings up 2 hard truths too… Ray Perkins was a Bryant guy. Granted Stallings was too, but you see the point. Also there is a widely repeated report that Saban himself thought Tommy Rees would be the next great HC in his tree. Would you really consider a 1 year Saban coach with no HC experience a suitable successor if Saban recommended it?

Coaching hires almost never end in who you want they usually end on who you can get at the time. From all reports GB targeted 3 guys and got who he believed was his best guy. Whether it works out is up in the air, but he must make hard choices in the coming months because it’s obvious there are issues that have to be fixed ASAP.

So lay some knowledge on us:
Who are you going to hire? I mean head coach/assistants, etc?
Who?
That would come here..................
Who is available that will do better?
If you have no solutions quit complaining
Bryant Haines.

Message boards would blow up, but he’s every bit as special as Cignetti.
