How anyone can dislike Rudy, I'll never get it. Little guy has a dream, works his butt off, never stops believing and makes his dream come true. What's not to like?
no doubt!! Everytime I see that movie, I imagine what it must be like to play for BAMA....even if for only one play. Man...chill bumps!!

I remember he came to my old hometown of Dothan back when this movie came out on rental. He was at a local (now defunct) Movie Gallery signing autographs. I never went by there, but I would have loved to meet the guy.

The movie did have it's share of scenes where, even though it was a true story, were a little over the top. That aside, it still goes down as my favorite sports movie of all time with Coach Carter running a close second.

This is much like most stories of the famous 1970 USC vs. Alabama game in Birmingham have been fabricated. The legends of Coach Bryant bringing Sam Cunningham into the locker room after the game and telling the Alabama players "this is what a real football player looks like" are completely untrue. The whole notion that Coach Bryant scheduled that game so as to help him be able to recruit black players is also untrue. We had already started recruiting and signing black athletes, and Wilbur Jackson (I believe) was sitting in the stands that night, unable to play because he was a freshman. Yet, the legends get repeated as fact every time it comes up, I guess because the dramatized story sounds better.

People actually thought the Dan Devine/jersey scene was real? Dan Devine allowed for his portrayal in the film to be antagonistic, but he was furious with the jersey scene, and rightfully so. No coach in their right mind would have allowed their team to pull something like that. Devine has even said he would have booted anyone who tried to do that.

Another fact skimmed by the movie is that Rudy spent 4 years in the navy, and not the steel mill. He was able to go to school on the G.I. Bill.

My wife and I were trying to figure out how he paid for JC & ND with the savings he got from working in the Steel Mill.
