OT Cyrus Kouandjio Updates

Just like Ray Drew shocked the world. And I know Cyrus has to do what's best for him, and not Alabama, but in that case Iowa is a far better place to land than Auburn.
Yea I don't get why Cyrus would want to go to Auburn over Iowa or Bama. Auburn runs a different offensive scheme than both schools. It's kind of odd that AU is still in consideration with their offense.

Actually, Luginbill did state that Kouandjio's coach said that he would "shock the world". The JOX guys repeated it a few times in discussion taking the "shock" comment would be to anywhere but Alabama (like AU or Iowa). That being said, Luginbill could have botched the quote if what you are saying is accurate though. I don't know your resources.

Bottom line, I am not reading too much into this quote whichever way it goes. It could go either way.

Luginbill had it wrong, the interview about shocking the world was in reference to why he would visit NM, didnt really have anything to do with Auburn, and I am pretty sure they still hadnt climbed into his finalist list at that point, since shannon had not yet been fired yet at UM, but I could be misremembering the timeline. however i do remember the interview.

I see no reason to be concerned here. He's not going to New Mexico or Iowa, and while yes there is a chance Auburn throws a ton of cash at him, that's a risk we have with basically every prospect out there (and, in any event, they'd be extremely dumb to do that given his family's ties to 'Bama).

Besides, what has changed here to really worry anyone? Yes he's taking an official visit to Auburn, so what? Tons of our signees under Saban have done that. What else? Luginbill mentioned it? Seriously, Luginbill? What in the world does that clown know about anything? In all honesty the guy is probably just trying to drum up ratings for his show on NSD. I would take anything he says with a grain of salt roughly the size of Russia.

I just see nothing to worry about here. He loves 'Bama, we've recruited him hard, his brother is at 'Bama, he considers Saban like a father, we've strengthened our ties to him by hiring Stoutland, etc. Anything could happen, obviously, but I see no reason whatsoever to expect him to end up anywhere other than 'Bama, and if he signs somewhere else it will probably be the biggest recruiting shock in many years.

P.S. Can someone explain to me how some of the same people drinking the Clowney / Crowell Kool-Aid by the gallon are the first ones to soil themselves in fear over Cyrus?

Why does American Idol show us dozens of people who can't sing ? lol

Because they read it, it must be true. In other words, the Crowell/Clowney Ritch did this, Saban did that, Clowney went here posts continues as does the Cyrus is visiting Auburn and he has no real leader, they have no offensive line returning posts continue. Now you have tweets, facebooks and on air comments from folks like Bone and Luginbill who will have you believe they are the have all / be all about recruiting. I love following the comedy. Ray Drew, Auburn lock. Ray Drew, Auburn no longer considering, Ray Drew, UGA verbal. Ray Drew, Auburn has been calling me all week. Got to love this stuff.

I'm not quite sure how I came across this article, but it was pretty interesting. I'm sorry I don't know how to link things but try googling "Cyrus speaks yahoo!canada sports". It was just posted yesterday I believe.

BET, always good perspective... I feel like you come at things about as level as possible.

Is it me or are things just different this year? We appear to be somewhat paranoid this year. Maybe its because the bulk of our class has been done for so long, I don't know. I'd like to see us land Cyrus. He's the only one left that I think is hugely important to this class. And, if we get one or two others, that's great. That would be icing.

The bottom line is, we have a great class with what we have now.

Thanks for posting that. Maybe I should have realized it, but I didn't know that Auburn was so late getting in on the action. I think pokechop mentioned it above.

Thanks a lot Miami. That said at least we do have the coach that was recruiting him. So now we have one of the coaches that was a coach of one of his finalists; we have his brother; we have Coach Saban that has obviously been recruiting him along, etc...

I said it before, and I'll repeat it. Nothing would shock me at this point, but it's hard to believe that he would pick a school that he's just visiting for the 1st time and a staff that he just recently got to know. If au wins out it has to be about the playing time.

Bama's class was essentially wrapped up in october. however, during the fall and summer local sports media absolutely ignores recruiting and most of our sports talk folks are barely casual followers of it. the only time it is ever really mentioned are these weeks leading up to signing day.During these weeks auburn has held of their entire commitiment list until now and has flooded local media with commits from this kid and that kid and have generated somewhat artificial momentum. Most aub commits have been silent commits for months only one may have been a real upset on their part and it took the UTx staff disintegrating. Combine that with our lack of verbals since Hart and we've had to listen to another few weeks of aub this bag of cash that, non stop on local media. For instance after Harts commitment there was a general annoucement on jox, after auburn picked up a 3 star de this week jox does a 30 minute spot with jh to talk about it. Any problem we have here is based on perception of everyone else getting great commits and us not picking up anyone new, when in reality we picked up a great class already and the best signees are already on campus, but unfortunately they are old news to us.

Oh no Cyrus doesn't want to compete with Arie... well there are 5 OL on the field so I don't think that's much of an issue. I really don't see CNS saying that sorry I want you both as a LT and one of you will make the other ride the pine for the rest of their college career.

CNS doesn't have to make all the in home visits. Stoutland or Rumph could've made the visit to Maryland instead just like the recruiting with Clowney.

To be honest, I have always competed with my brother and unless they are different they both do the same thing, as do most of us here as well.

We know the albarn coaches are using "depth charts" to try to convince recruits they will ride the pine at Bama and get EPT (some even start) their first year at albarn. Then they turn right around and tell them that albarn has a better team and will beat Bama most of the time.LOL.
At least one recruits mom (or grandmom) has already made it public that albarn recruiters told a bunch of "lies".
Everyone knows that CNS doesn't have depth charts, starts and plays the players that practice the best.......senior or freshman.

We have piece of trash fans posting negative stuff on Cyrus' face book page, whining about him going to Auburn. These kinds of fans will kill our chances with this guy.

Lol, someone posted Randy Edsall's cell number on his page and told Cyrus to call him. So much fail in that dudes comment.

I know Bama has some jerks for fans but, if I had to wager, I'd bet a good percentage of those are posers and not Bama fans.

I don't understand why these kids would except hundreds of friends request just to get bombarded with idiot fans that want to friend a 16 or 17 year old kid they don't know.

auburn has idiots too, i wouldnt be to worried about it. i don't see it coming down to what fans write on facebook.

I don't know how credible Sports By Brooks may be, but the latest Auburn article he has posted raises some eyebrows as to what kind of special treatment the barn plans on giving their recruits this weekend.
