I just went back on my lunch break and watched the plays from this game.

Bottom line: Oklahoma is SOFT.

Soft in the running game. Soft in their run fits. Soft in pass coverage. Very soft in tackling. They're easily as soft overall - especially on defense - as they were last year.

Oklahoma is not a real threat to anyone with any real sort of a balanced team.

In this game, Oklahoma went up 10-0 and then proceeded to let Kansas State (a team that only beat Mississippi State by seven points) go on a 48-13 run.

48 - 13.

Just like in their game against us last year, their "unstoppable" offense was shut down for multiple quarters while their "defense" couldn't stop a small kitten until the game was effectively over and the other team changed the game-plan to go extra-conservative on offense and, on defense, to start trading yards and points for time. Then Oklahoma was finally able - scratch that, finally allowed by the other team - to do something on offense.

The Oklahoma "defense" forced a three-and-out on K-State's first possession and then proceeded to give up the following eight drives:
12 plays, 88 yards, Touchdown
12 plays, 85 yards, Touchdown
10 plays, 46 yards, Field Goal
3 plays, 14 yards, Touchdown
9 plays, 44 yards, Field Goal
4 plays, 46 yards, Touchdown
4 plays, 25 yards, Touchdown
10 plays, 73 yards, Touchdown


Remember, through the entire first half of the semifinal game last year, Oklahoma's "unstoppable" offense only managed a measly 10 points, 191 total yards (almost half of which came on three plays, one of which was a meaningless QB scramble to end the half), only 9 first downs, and were 0-5 on third down - all without giving up a single fumble or interception.


Unless and until the entire mindset toward defense changes across the entire Big 12 conference, that entire conference won't pose a serious threat in the CFP.

Sure, Oklahoma will put up a ton of yards, put up a ton of points, and win a lot of games but they will never be a real CFP contender, even if they make it in, as long as they are this soft.

That's not really fair - stopping a small kitten is HARD!!!
