But does the FAA actually even have anything to do with "missile defense"?

I can just as easily see Trump doing this as I can CNN not even bothering to verify this employee is actually an employee (after all, he tells us all how secret it is, which would justify to some minds running with the story without verifying it).

The linked article is the equivalent of one, long "some say" weasel-word construction that a poor journalist uses to lead readers to interpret as fact what is actually the journalist's opinion.

I think the reporter must have heard wrong. The fired guy was complaining that since he no longer has access to government systems then he can no longer play Missile Defense on the Atari console he used to have in the tower with him.

I understand, this guy liked having a job, and he evidently really believed in the work he was doing. Not surprising. That work might even have been as important to national security as he says.
