Parker Allen

From Stuart's journal

Dear Friends,
We are in the process of getting it set up for Parker to have the surgery to replace his left skull piece. As you may remember, it was removed after the accident to allow room for swelling and placed in his left abdomen. I spent the day traveling to Birmingham and Columbus to pick up CT scans to give to his doctor here in Huntsville. It gave me plenty of time to think, pray, listen to a couple of Jim Cymbala sermons, and enjoy some really good CD's.
Parker continues to improve steadily. This week, we have been able to put him in a standing frame several times, which is really good therapy for someone in his condition. It is also always good for a few laughs. The joke the other night was that he survived an accident that most people would not have, but his mom and I are going to kill him moving him around. As I like to say, "it's a circus." Also, Parker's occupational therapist brought an air splint for his arms, which makes it easier for him to move. She is very pleased with his progress. He is consistently alot more alert, especially in the mornings.
..."for we walk by faith, not by sight ---". We are almost 3 months since the accident. Parker still has very little movement in his arms, legs, and trunk. He is not able to vocalize or communicate. If you look at the outward signs, it is easy to get discouraged. But we have a God that has made His Name by doing the impossible. As Paul says in Romans 4, "...even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist." He is able to take nothing and turn it into something.
Of all the many blessings that we have received since March 3rd, the greatest blessing is that we have no one to turn to for answers, but Him. I believe that is just how the Lord wants it. He uses our circumstances to take us to the point where we must cry out to Him. A recurring theme in the Psalms is that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. I know that to be true. May we never be far from His presence.
Even though the visible says otherwise, we believe that Parker is being healed by God. "Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you." We sincerely thank you for praying for Parker. Please continue to remember all of us in your thoughts and prayers.

Per Stuart:

Parker will be going for surgery next Tuesday. He is having his skull piece replaced. Parker will probably be in the hospital for at least a couple of days. He is still making some subtle improvements from day to day and week to week. This morning he was able to stand in the standing frame for almost 30 minutes, which was great. Also, while he was standing, he was able to keep his head up, on his own, for most of the time. This is a major accomplishment. He has shown better head and neck control in the past few days.
