Bama Game Thread: [Part II] Official PostGame Thread Bama vs. AU...

I get your frustration - I really do. They screwed up seriously and missed some serious calls while making some ticky-tack calls they would never make for Bama's advantage.

That said, the reality is that as bad as AU is on offense this year, even with the two pick-6s this game shouldn't have been close. If the Bama D had played the way they're capable (on paper) of we'd be angry about the poor officiating but would be wondering whether we made the cut in the CFP or not. This loss is squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff, and unless / until we face up to that particular music, we'll continue down the path we started last season.

This is absolutely true. I view the two things as mutually exclusive in the blame-game-sense. The fact remains this is the worst officiated "big time" game I have ever watched. The SEC MUST hold these yokels accountable for it. We lost the game through our own efforts or lack thereof, but the officiating tonight was beyond inexcusable. The officials didn't 'lose' the game for us - we did that to ourselves - but their calls and no calls from start to finish were pee-wee level.

The stakes are too high to allow officiating idiocy to mar games like this. The end of both halves proves the point without including all the non-PI and non-holding calls and ticky-tack nonsense they called. It's been a running theme this year (and last few years) alongside our own defensive decline... how in the world are these guys able to look themselves in the mirror the morning after and say, "Well done"? They can't if they're being honest.

Anything less than a full season suspension of this crew is not enough. The point HAS to be made that incompetence and lack of rule knowledge or enforcement will.not.be.tolerated.

Very disappointing loss but it was nothing like the Kick 6 game. I really didn't think we would get into the playoff anyway. Bama's defense took a couple of steps back this season but injuries caught up with us. The two P6s is what really killed us. Bama could have won the game without one of them. RTR Forever!!!!!!

Roll Tide! Time to look forward to the bowl game and next season.

So, what bowl does Alabama land in, and against what opponent?

I doubt they go to the Sugar Bowl now. Outback or Capital One against Minnesota or Penn St. Just a guess. Congrats against Michigan! I am always a Buckeye fan in that rivalry.

I felt like we were making up rules as we went along. So, from now on, so now we just train our players to go down with one second on the clock and they will have to review? Are you kidding me?

They call holding on Leatherwood, negating a TD. Then miss two blatant holds on Auburn’s 1st offensive TD. The bogus PIs. The phantom face mask on Lee. The bogus “late hit” on Lee too. Both resulted in extending drives.

Any one of those doesn’t happen, we win

Any one.

I’m glad the season is over. The last month has sucked. Time to focus more on the other things in life. Don’t care who gets in and who doesn’t. Hoping UGA beats LSU and then both get slaughtered in playoffs.

CC, can't argue with any of it but what else is there to say about officiating? I am ready to take a break and hunt. I'll take time off to watch the Bama bowl game and the important games left.

I think it depends on which Bama team they think shows up. Here's what the "experts" are predicting:

CFN: Cotton Bowl vs Boise State
CBS: Citrus Bowl vs Va. Tech
ESPN: Sugar Bowl vs Oklahoma or Baylor

My personal preference in these scenarios would be Citrus Bowl. I also think it would be one more likely well-attended by Bama fans and a win.

I doubt Bama goes to the Sugar Bowl. Georgia will be 11-2 and East champs if they lose to LSU. I think they are the second best team in the SEC so I think it is only right for them to go to the Sugar.

Against VaTech? I still think that would be the worst attendance game but it’ll be bad regardless. Bama fans have spent a small fortune on CFP games for half a decade. They’ll take this one off. This is just the consequence of the playoffs for the teams like Bama. The minor bowl games just aren’t meaningful and aren’t looked at as they used to be. I still like them and I’ll watch but they’ll be lucky if the lower bowl is full.

Thanks - I agree with the PP who said that the Sugar is out. The SEC has ties to the Orange Bowl, but they have to choose between an SEC school and a B1G school. Would they take Alabama or Penn State?

The Cotton bowl can take the best team still available after the other NY6 bowls pick their teams, but they also have to take the highest ranked group of five team. If Alabama is still there, they probably jump. But does anyone want to watch that game - Alabama vs. Group 5 winner? Frankly, I am not sure if most Alabama fans would even watch that kind of stupid match-up. So I really hope that Alabama does not end up in that game.

The SEC has ties with the Sugar Bowl. The Orange Bowl has no affiliation with any conference.

I'll go to the Cotton Bowl if Bama gets slotted there. I wouldn't mind seeing Jerry World, and tickets will be cheap. The matchup will be meh--but meh is a fitting end to this season.

The SEC has ties with the Sugar Bowl. The ACC has ties with the Orange Bowl. I think that is right.

Correct - The Sugar is locked in with the SEC and the Big 12. Rose is locked in with the B1G and the PAC. Orange is locked in with the ACC, they can choose between the B1G and the SEC for the next best available team of their choice (unless Notre Dame is in the mix). The Cotton has to take the group of 5 team. Afetr that they can take any team not already taken by the other NY6 bowls.

Please, God, not the Boise game. If another P5 team mails in a bowl game against the Blue Cheaters (having a blue field with blue uniforms ought to be a five yard penalty on Boise on each play until the field is not blue any more), we will have to listen to them thump their chests again for another decade. Anyone but Boise. Not because any P5 team could not beat them in a meaningful game, but the tendency of P5 teams to say to themselves, "Aw, shucks. All we get is a bowl game against Boise. I don't care about this game, so I'm going to mail this one in." Poof! Instant Boise chest thumping. No thank you.

It could be worse ..... we could be FSU or Miami!

Seriously, I hate losing to Gus and his "Trick or Treat" HS offense/tactics. We beat ourselves more than they beat us in my mind.

In so many ways the final game was a microcosm of the enter season. A situation where, from game one to this one, no one got "better' as a whole. Players didn't get better. Coaches didn't get better. CNS as leader and CEO didn't get better and SEC officiating didn't get better. All but the last fall on CNS.

I think back to the Arkansas game where we were up big, had held Arkansas on third down, and Ben Davis lines up off sides giving them a first down. It led to the only score of the night for the Razorbacks. CNS absolutely "lost his mind". And people wonder why?

Yesterday was why. LSU was why. You lose games when you play with half a brain....players and coaches.

I hate to lose. But I'm not a "bad sport". If you get "throttled" like we did against Clemson, swallow your pride, tip your hat and move on. I can "tip the hat" a little to LSU. They at least have an offense where giving up 40+ points was a possibility. We gave 34 points to a team in Auburn that would have difficulty scoring in a house of ill repute with a fist full of hundred dollar bills.

I knew it was a long shot to get the 4th spot and even less likely that Bama would win the NC, but I still wanted Bama to beat Auburn.... and at least get a chance for the 4th spot.

I am still upset, got no sleep last night, and am baffled at the penalties, lack of improvement on defense, and the 2 major calls by the refs (letting them kick field goal, not letting us sub for the last play). The 2 Pick 6's did not help. But at least Mac bounced back and played well for the most part. He definitely outplayed Bo Nix.

Things happen for a reason... as far as football is concerned, things do too. It is hard to pinpoint a certain thing but it all adds up: coaching changes, NFL early departures, major injuries, penalties, refs, and in this case, Auburn voodoo. Even with just 1 pick 6, Bama wins. What a fluke play on 1st and goal.. should have been a run play, but even if Najee would have missed and it hit the ground, I think we would have scored eventually. Instead the "butt pick 6" happened.

I had to turn off the tv when they started interviewing Gus.. I cannot bear to listen to him talk. Before I turned it, I did hear him say Bo would win a championship one day. Maybe, maybe not. I don't see it though. I hope they lose their bowl game.

Bama must get some great recruits on defense and not miss out on D Kennedy and whoever else LSU is trying to flip.

It will be tough the next few years with our schedule and the fact that other teams besides Clemson and UGA are after our recruits. I hope Saban makes the needed coaching changes without much turnover.. but that he waits until after signing day.

This season more than ever, I have realized that I take Bama football way too seriously. Not just the games/losses, but how others on social media and in person react to it (including my acquaintances and friends). I think it has gotten worse since I retired, as I have more time to spend with it and think about it. I think Saban created this high expectations for Bama fans.. which is a good thing because we have won so many National Championships, but also a bad thing because we are so spoiled the past 10 years.

I hope all the players learn from this, and the coaches too. I hope they have a good month of practice for the bowl game and that Bama comes out a winner. That will help with momentum for the off season. If we lose the bowl game, it will be a long off season for the program, coaches, players, and fans. Sorry for the long post... I am still disappointed in the outcome.

Roll Tide !

Go to Disney, get a game ticket cheap/free. What’s not to like? ;)

Your forgot to add "it is only right for them to go to the Sugar'... so Oklahoma can beat them really bad with Jalen. Just like last year when Jalen came in and beat UGA. I would love to see OU and Jalen give UGA their 3rd loss.
