If Pate is right and he's still here in 2026 then here are a few guys I could see build their resumes to be the guy/some names I've seen others mention that I think could make sense.

Mike Norvell, Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBoer, Deion Sanders, Mike Elko

My completely unprofessional and "pay no mind to" prediction is CNS will not be here after next season.

Before I jump on the Deion train, I want to see how he handles a big loss. If he walks off the stage after getting asked an uncomfortable question, or does he answer it with “class”? I’m not convinced, at this point, that “class” can be used to describe him, but he’ll have plenty of opportunities to convince me otherwise. Soon, probably.
As for when CNS will leave - I’ll take him at his word, when it’s no longer “fun”. Losing isn’t fun, and if this year equals or exceeds his worst at Bama (not first year), then I think he’s gone after next year, at the latest; unless he hires world class coordinators and wins it all next year, then he may stay until 25 because I think he wants to work with JS. It’s possible he rides until JS leaves, but IMO that’s only as long as Bama wins it all.

I don't have a name, but I think Bama needs to hire the most innovative offensive mind to be the next HC.

I think that's the future of the sport.

A few pro coaches might give it a try. Some one like Brian Johnson, the Eagles OC, would be a possibility. Or if Demeco flames out with the Texans ( which I hope he is successful. ). Always a coach that is wanting to better himself.

Curious if that "gut feeling" is based on how you feel the season might go if it unravels?
That is a component of it, but the majority of my "gut feeling" is the lack of a framework and regulation of the transfer portal, the NIL, and how it has changed how football programs have to be operated to be successful. The college model, pre-transfer portal, and NIL are what he liked about college football and why he hated the NFL. Now, college football is more unregulated in the areas he hated about the NFL.

I literally said this about Saban when Alabama hired him. It took me two full seasons to feel like he was Bama’s coach and not just a “hired hand” with a bad attitude and unlikeable personality.
Heck, longer than that, probably not until the tornado .

he needs hits. what better way than to generate talk of replacing GOAT??
I don't think he does, though - I'm pretty sure his has become one of (if not the) most popular CFB podcasts on the web.

And more than that, many people like me listen to him because he's generally above this sort of 'hot take'. He's historically avoided this sort of thing.

It's curious.

well, Deion gets the credit, but Sean Lewis is the man responsible for the Buffs success. BTW, we had Kiff, Locks, then Sark. Pretty creative, netted us 3 chips in what 7 years? Pretty remarkable but The pendulum has swung the other way.

Multi thread response, is it just me or are people kicking dirt on Nick’s football grave? Only Bama fans!

Well, here’s a fresh topic we’ve never discussed before.

I’ve always thought he would stay until 2026 when we play at West Virginia.

If we have a complete collapse this year and go 7-5 or worse he might decide he’s done. But I don’t want to think about that. I also don’t want him hanging on until he is in his 80s like Paterno or Bowden and become a figurehead.

Hopefully, we don’t feel every coach the next 25 years needs to be one of his “boys” the way we did with Bryant.

I don’t think he will, but I hope he doesn’t hang around and try to pull the strings after he retires. It didn’t work for Fulmer or Dye.
