Video: Pate on Bama's future under DeBoer

A realistic and positive take on DeBoer and Alabama. Pate usually does spin things in a positive light, so take it with a grain of salt. One thing he said, that I want to believe but not sure I do, is that DeBoer kept going with Milroe to prove things out it wasn't going to work with Milroe. Again, not sure I buy into that totally, but I want to because, otherwise, I don't understand not giving Simpson a shot in the bowl game.

Because I don't have any connections to the program, I hope his theory of CKD letting the chips fall where they fell due to Milroe is accurate. I'm disappointed with how the season ended, but in some ways, I wasn't entirely surprised. Pate ware spot on about some of the issues being around longer than CKD, specifically about the penalties and lack of discipline. I don't think CNS was any lenient on his standards; I think the profile of the player and what motivates them to play well changed to the point where CNS' holistic approach was no longer attractive.

Regardless of what anyone says, this was going to be a transition year once CNS retired. What if Milroe doesn't connect with Williams to take the lead against UGA, or the DB doesn't intercept Beck's attempted throw? That's another loss. I sincerely hope with Milroe on his way out, CKD can establish his methods even more. I trust CKD, and Pate is right - our standards for how the team performs relative to others is changing. Just like a single-digit point average used to be the standard for an amazing defense but it is now keeping the offense below 20 points - in today's age, that's considered a great defense now.

The dynasty under Saban is not only over for Bama but it is over for college football moving forward. No coach or program will ever replicate what Saban did in his years at Bama. I can confidently say we will be the greatest dynasty ever in college football when looking at CFB history. The landscape of college football won't allow another one like ours and this train ain't moving backwards. As we see CFB continue to evolve history will look very favorably on our dynasty with Saban. It will be one that will never be replicated.

You are correct. I miss Coach Saban more and more every time I hear him speak about anything on Gameday or Pat Mac's show. He has so much knowledge and is able to share it with us now in ways that he couldn't when he was our head coach.

People remember his juicy quotes, but they were definitely the exception. He seemed intent to run interference vs the media more than anything.

I agree. Can't dominate with no player development and no backups.

Yeah if there is one positive out of all this is that NO ONE will ever come close to replicating or surpassing CNS in NCs.

He will be considered the GOAT until the end of time.

2009-2020 will be the Greatest CFB Dynasty until the end of time.

Can the mods make this a sticky thread and before anybody can post they have to watch the whole video.

We can disagree with what JP said at the end about letting the season play out on someone's terms and not his. Knowing what we think we know about the problems, it's a fair take.

But the first 5 or 6 minutes of this video is vintage gold. And the points he makes should actually encourage our fan base.

2009-2020 were 12 seasons of the most glorious era of football Bama fans will ever know. We won 50% of the NC in those 12 seasons.

But, acknowledging it's over doesn't mean it's not still ours to have and relish.

And now, moving forward, we've got a great coach and we are a top program. NC's will be fewer, but we'll enjoy them even more.

And FWIW, I believe he's right about Keelon Russell.

Looking back at what Saban did at Bama and saying it couldn't be replicated, most people including me were saying it couldn't be done 20 years ago. Thought he would be great, never dreamed they would dominate like they did, enjoyed the ride

I think the way forward, whether we like it or not, is teams with piles of cash buying the best rosters that can. (tOSU opened the checkbook last year and are looking pretty good right now. (Michigan spent $15M on a QB and $7M on OT Ty Haywood.)
Player development will suffer, but there will be a championship game every year and somebody has got to be in it.
A teams with a bunch of great players (even if underdeveloped) will have a good chance of being in that game.
That is, I believe, the way it is going to be until someone brings some order to the chaos.

That does not mean Bama won't win a lot, but the 2009-2020 days are gone.

Well we are going to have an incredibly experienced team next season. Depending on how a few things line up. This article shows how 11 of our 22 starters next year might end up being players in their final year of eligibility.

There will be no excuses for not making the playoffs next season.

The schedule will be Alabama's, and other good SEC teams, issue again next year. The committee showed that they value wins over difficulty. Three losses will keep Alabama out of the playoffs. It's easy to find three losses on next year's schedule. Boise States and Indianas will take the spots of the three-loss SEC teams.

Here is what it looks like is happening to me right now. Bama is opening up the check book to keep key guys from going to the NFL. The defense is looking really good next year with the number of guys coming back that I expected to transfer or go to the NFL. The offense isn’t looking to back either. If the QB situation settles in nicely this could be a very experienced team that could make some serious noise. They aren’t spending a ton of money to bring guys in but to keep guys they really like in house and even convince them to come back when they could go pro.
