I have been to a lot of away games in my years, but the the Penn State fans were the best ever. There was a lady walking around handing out a sheet of paper to welcome all Bama fans. After the game, I bet 20 fans told me congratulations:D and welcome to Penn State.

Agreed. Penn St fans went out of their way to come up to us and welcome us to State College. We really had a good time because of their warm welcome. I will also say that just about every State fan we spoke to said that Tide fans last year were the most kind and gracious fans they had ever visited. It made me proud to be a Bama fan!

Could not agree more! Outstanding fans! Very respectful and knowledgable! Only dissapointment for me was not being able to see Joe Paterno on the sidelines.

Ditto on all of the comments on the great fans at PSU. I have traveled to bowl games all over, Hawaii and various SEC locations and Penn State had the absolute best fans, atmosphere and game experience outside of BDS.

With that said, I also have to say how proud I am of Bama fans I met at the PSU game. Without a single exception, I saw class, respect and courtesy from every Bama fan there...and there were way many more Bama fans than I expected to see. Great job traveling Tide Fans.

Penn State fans Friday afternoon, Saturday before and after the game were awesome.

Students Friday night downtown were pretty bad. Every time we walked by a bar, the whole line would start chanting "butt" hole over and over. Also got a lot of "__ You's" walking around. I shrugged it off b/c I figured most of them were drunk.

By far one of the best road trips!!

I want to say how gracious the Penn State faithful were. One of the best away game atmospheres in the country and everyone (minus 1 or 2 yahoos) was very helpful and respectful to us and of the rivalry. Congrats to the PSU family. You have alot to be proud of. Great fan base.

RTR!!!!!

I agree, Penn State fans were wonderful. EVERYone I talked to went out of their way to be friendly. Many would even greet us with a friendly "Roll Tide".
Their attitude made every Bama fan's trip very enjoyable.
There is mutual respect between the fans, teams and coaches. Plus JoePa asked their fans to be friendly since we were so welcoming to them last year.
I think this friendly attitude works with almost all fan bases. Most fans want to just visit, enjoy the experience, and have a good time.

I miss PSUFAN1! We didn't go to the game, but all the tips he gave were so helpful to those who did and all the pointers on where to go for good food, tips on parking & the weather updates, etc. Yes, you could have looked it up, but I thought that was very generous. PSU has moved up on my list of top colleges other than Bama.

We walked about a mile across campus to visit the Geology department and see the older part of campus. Absolutely beautiful, huge trees, stone buildings. We met an older lady at the campus bookstore and she wished us well and expressed hope that we would renew our games with them in her lifetime. She enjoyed watching her PennState play a classy team like Alabama.

As I get older, I enjoy playing those teams that have been "there" before. Two teams that respect one another and what each team stands for. It is my hopes that we can continue scheduling the Penn States, Oklahomas, Florida States, and Virginia Techs of the world.

I didn't go anywhere I'm still here....I'm so glad everyone had a great time....THAT is what college football should be about. I've traveled to a lot of stadium and even the Rose Bowl, but Saturday's reception to the Bama fans made me proud that I'm a PSU fan. I've read some of the other threads and I do agree......its all about respect. If you give respect, you get respect. Saturday's game was about two great historical school meeting on the field. Everyone asked me after the game how I felt about the loss (knowing that i'm such a diehard fan). I felt good. It was a great day and a great time and Penn State got beat by a great team, thats it plain and simple. I've been to the Big House and had myself and my 8 year old son cussed at, i've been to The Shoe and had things thrown at me.... but Saturday was awesome. RTR!!!

Thanks again for your help, and I you continue to post here. I regret so much I couldn't make the trip. This may very well be the last time Bama plays a Joe Pa coached PSU team, and I really wish I could have been there for it. I wish PSU the best of luck the rest of the way, and I hope you guys can make some noise in the Big Ten!

As a long time supporter of Penn State Football, a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and the Back the Lions Club. As a corp sponsor of the Quarterback club and of the PSU PBS TV program called "Huddle Up" and as a 20+ year season ticket holder it pains me to say but Penn State will not be a contender again until Joe decides to hang it up. I was talking to him the other day and I have to say IMO, this is it, I think Sue (his wife) is finally puting her foot down and making him hang it up. AND before you ask who do I want to see coach I'll tell you. As much as I like Tom Bradley and love what he done as a DC, I have to say I would like to See Al Golden in there. I think he is a great coach and I don't think Myer, Saban or any coach could have won more game with what they would have had to work with at Temple than Al did. I don't see Miami holding him to his contract after they screwed him like they did.

It saddens me to say that I agree with you. It will be the end of an era, but as we found out with Coach Bryant, it has to end at some point. My wish is that he can put together a good season, and hang it up on high note.

I think Al Golden is a fine coach, and I hated to hear he he took the Miami job (even before the recent scandal). Don't get me wrong, I don't blame him for taking a great opportunity, but I thought he was too classy of a guy to go to the U.

I had some great experiences up in Happy Valley. We actually attended the "Rally in the Valley" pep rally on Friday night and listened to JoePa fire up the home crowd. It was pretty dang impressive. Their fans were top notch with very few exceptions. State College is a wonderful place to watch a football game and spend some time. I'll gladly give them a Go Lions and a We Are...Penn St. Roll Tide!

I heard some people say that Paterno's son would take over, but that would surprise me if that happened. Quite a few of the folks I talked to wanted to see Bill Cowher take over. That would be interesting.

So glad you are still here PSUFAN1! I'm sure you're busy, but it's great having respectful, friendly visitors to chat with on this forum. There are a few fans of other schools who've posted here for years. They usually show up a few weeks before our teams meet and some post year round. This place is always buzzing, so if you ever get bored in the off season come chat with us. You'll always find someone here counting down the days till the next kick-off. For now, best of luck to PSU the rest of the season and thank you for being such a gracious host to our fellow Bama fans.

There have been a lot of names floating around
Bill Cowher - would be awesome, but I just don't see him taking that paycut from Pros to College when a lot of Pro teams would hire him in a heart beat.
Al Golden - I have already expressed my feeling on this one.
Jay Paterno - NO it won't happen, Jay is not well thought of in Happy Valley and IMO he is only there because of his dad.
Tom Bradley - PSU's DC I like him but I don't see them hiring him at his age.
Mike (Big Red) McQueary - PSU's WR's Coach and former QB. If they hire from within this is who I think it will be.
Urban Myer - This name has been kicked around a lot.....I just don't know how true it is. It would be great if it was.
Greg Schiano - Maybe 5 years ago, but I don't see it happening now, not with the way his teams have been playing as of late.
