OK, What have I learned from this thread? :)

Winning NCs comes from a combo of excellent recruiting, above-average to great coaching.

Meyer is proven in other leagues, but not the SEC. Not yet anyways.

Texas has an excellent overall record this decade thus far. What bowl are they playing in this year? ;)

So the only unknown out of this mess of info is Meyer's coaching ability. My opinion is if he can pull off what he did at Utah/BG, he will definitely contend for the right to play for the NC year in and year out. He's drawing the players. Obviously, the same can be said for our own Coach Shula, with what we are building. Simply stated, better than average coaching plus great recruiting class after great recruiting class equals a contending powerhouse football program, year in and year out.

If Meyer can pull off running the offense he wants, and getting a hardnosed defense out of that bunch, they'll be alright. We, on the other hand, already have the Defense just about at "reload" mode, with the offense trickling out of the "work in progress" mode. We may actually beat UF to the punch, and that's not sunshine pumping. Just the facts. UF hasn't had the issues that Moore/Shula has had to face the last few years besides mediocrity. We have good reasons (not excuses) for not being top-notch in all categories, what's their excuse? Did someone put a gun to someone's head to hire Zook? You won't find sympathy from me...

I would bet that the Florida fans and fan boards are giggling themselves silly over our consternation about their recruiting success. I guess they are getting payback from the beating we administered to them back in the fall and oh yeah, the beating we gonna give them next fall. ;)

Yes UM will have some success in the SEC but let us not forget that the East is going to be really tough in the next few years. Georgia continues to recruit well, Tenn will get back on track, unfortunately, and South Carolina has already begun to win with inferior atheletes. When he gets a couple of classes in there he will have them competitive. So I dont see any team from the East being dominant with that kind of competition. They will continue to knock each other off like they did this year.

You do understand UM is putting together one of the best recruiting classes in the country right? not just a good class to the standards of the C-USA, but the nation...

I agree. UM will probably have to tweak his spread option offense a bit to have it succeed in the SEC but UF's recruiting board is something. UM doesn't have to be an offensive guru to win in the SEC. If a team acquires enough great talent they can cover up a lot of "flaws" in coaching ability or scheme and UF is well on it's way of doing just that.

The talent on Florida is getting scary... glad we don't have to play them for a while after next year except possibly in the SECCG.

Did you even read the post? He even said "Florida is a great place to play college football." So you are saying that is not a correct statement. If you are just here to argue then you may want to find some place else. If you are not then please don't act like it by accusing someone of a diatribe when he is just making a post. This is a Tide Fans board we are not cheerleaders for UF and Meyer.
Come on Crimson. Of course I read the post. How would you respond if someone said, "That Bama sure is great school, but they cheat like hell". Well that's how I took it. You can take me to task if you want but that's the way I took it.

It is apparent that Hogtown is here only to antagonize Bama Fans and gloat.
When was the last time UF beat Bama on the field??

Anything but. And what is there to gloat over???? A high school sr that has never played a down of College Ball?? We haven't won in the last 3 games.

I have been nothing but Complimentary of Bama since I have been on this board. Maybe not some of it's members, but every board has it's gems. But not once have I said anything bad about Bama.

BTW - It was Oct 3, 1998. 16-10. and it was a long time ago.

What is Florida doing so right?

Seriously, are they paying players or what. They are recruiting so well after such a so-so season it's insane. Anyone know what they are doing better than everyone else?

Also, could we please stop with the "So-and so's uncle's hairdresser said to my friend's mom that so-and-so doesn't like Bama." I am all for general speculation, it makes good talk, but blatantly spreading rumors is getting a bit lame. That is my soapbox for this week. :)

This just in: "By special order from the SEC offices, The University of Florida WILL be allowed to have 13 players on offensive possessions, for the 2006 season. This was deemed necessary, to allow CUM's offense a "fair" chance to develop, in view of this conference's penchant for fast, aggressive defenses. It was also believed that this action might prevent another embarrassing "crying session" by the afore mentioned coach, also. Therefore, UF will be allowed to oversign by as many as ......whatsis name wants" :eek2:

One thing Florida is doing so right is...

Being in Florida!

1. Florida has more people in it than most of the other southern states combined. More people= more talent.

2. They are still getting runoff from the Spurrier mystique. If the genius doesn't blow the next couple of seasons, he can set up shop for a while.

3. They have been media darlings for a little while, and that hasn't changed. Urban is a media darling as well.

4. They started wining at the end of their season, particualrly when they had a lot of visiting recruits. By the time Bama started really getting high interest, we were on the downhill slide. They beat the snot out of FSU, who is their chief recruiting rival along with Miami. Miami doesn't have to recruit Florida like UF and FSU, so they essentially beat out their chief competitor.

5. They got the high-profile, media darling QB live on television.

6. Florida puts a lot of stock in their recruits' "stars" and really pump up their ratings. Sunshine preps, etc..., spend a lot of time putting recruits' names out there and getting attention on the pay boards. Their people tend to get higher "star" ratings than other areas.

As others have said, don't pay a hell of a lot of attention to those stars. The five stars probably are spectacular, but they make up very few numbers on even a highly ranked team. There isn't too much difference between the 3-4-5 star players all, at least as far as I can tell. Their class looks a better on paper, but necessarily on the field.

PS- Alabama's current class isn't shabby at all so far. It's ranked 7th.
