quit worrying about the Gators.......as far as I'm concerned when you face a team in Atlanta, it just comes down to who wants it more.....

Am I the only one out there that is starting to become a little suspicious of all the success that Florida is having recruiting this year? I know Tebow was a given, but what have they done to warrant this kind of success? Urban (I like myself alot) Meyer was simply not impressive this year- dusted at Bama, beaten at LSU and embarassed at South Carolina-should have lost to Vandy as well- one would have thought they were playing for the national title this year- I know this sounds like sour grapes, but what is this coaching staff selling these kids- Florida is a great place to play college football and I understand that, but this recruiting class makes me raise an eyebrow or two- it appears that Spikes and AC Jones will also join this class-unbelievable- no way Urban Meyer is this good of a recruiter- not to start rumours, but something does not sit well with me w/ Florida.

Bama must finish this class up with Andre' Smith, Hawthorne, Ricks and several of the out of state kids they are recruiting, especially Derrick Oden from Miss.- anyone else find Florida's success to be a little questionable-I understand that Andre' Smith is even going to visit Gainesville, and that should worry all Tide fans. Any comments?

Oh Puuuuulllleeeeesseee!!!

There was on correct statement in this whole diatribe. It does sound like sour grapes.

IMO Harvey will not be sitting on the pine next season, he is a remarkable talent with an equally remarkable ego. It will be interesting how he's handled in G'ville. The young man enjoys the limelight. McDaniels seems to be more sound but it should be noted, in the State Championship game a targeted PH was held to just over 40 yards and DM was of little factor in their defending champ Landstown H.S. being easily beaten. PH also missed 2 or 3 games, suspended for cursing and shoving an official. I really thought PH was a lock for USC before last week and I also saw Miami a better fit than UF and I can assure you Beamer of VaT is scratching his head over DM. I can see DM finishing 4 years of play not PH, I could be fooled.

Exactly! Urban Meyer is doing a super job recruiting at probably one of the easiest places to recruit at in America. How that will equate on the field in years to come is anyones guess. But I would wager if he turns it into a National Championship on the field in a year or two he most likely will be coaching in the pro's shortly there after. And whoever they hire next will have similiar success recruiting also.

Coach Shula is just now beginning to showcase his talents as a coach and recruiter and if he keeps improving every year then we will be right there with the Gators, USC, Texas and the LSU's of the game if we are not allready there now.

UF only signed 18 in 2005, not sure how many of those qualified. Depending on their total number on scholarship, could they potentialy sign 7 "graduates" that enroll now and count toward last year's total?........ and still have a full compliment of 25 for this year?
Also, for every new highly ranked commitment the greater the chance of loosing a prior commit who may think the class is getting a little over crowded.

What good is having all these Great players if they don't make a team.
You'll have more guys like this leaving cause many of these so called 5 star players are so used to having the lime light they don't even no what the words
team player means. Its obvious they don't care about winning a championship,
its all about the me factor.

Did you even read the post? He even said "Florida is a great place to play college football." So you are saying that is not a correct statement. If you are just here to argue then you may want to find some place else. If you are not then please don't act like it by accusing someone of a diatribe when he is just making a post. This is a Tide Fans board we are not cheerleaders for UF and Meyer.

I don't necessarily agree with his something is a little suspicious remark but that is his opinion. I just think Meyer is on a roll and he sure knows how to work the text messaging. lol

Personally I don't know why Florida's commitments from Harvin and McDaniels are even being discussed. I could see if it was prospects that Bama and UF have mutual interest in but Bama was never recruiting either of them.

It is apparent that Hogtown is here only to antagonize Bama Fans and gloat.
When was the last time UF beat Bama on the field??

I could not agree with you more CS. Although, I think it is interesting to see how well other schools around the conference are recruiting it will have little bearing how Bama plays in '06, '07, '08 and beyond.

It will be interesting to see if CMS can spank the lizards in their backyard next year. Just think, CMS with a very young and inexperienced team going to Gainsville and trying to beat the mighty Gators with all of that amazing talent they have amassed. It would seem the pressure is on to perform Hogtown.

Mods, do you think these two commits help Bama out with Spikes and AJ Jones. UF has about 26 commits so far and probably has only 2-3 more to take. Do you think the staff takes only the 1st one to commit b/w Spikes and Jones?
I was curious about this as well... I hear some Gator fans saying they want to grab another OL or two in this class as well and now the Gators already have 26 commits... wonder where that leaves Spikes and/or Jones?

Whatever it is the Gators are selling, the kids are buying the hell out of it.Out of curiosity, have we ever had a haul like what they supposedly have going this year? If I'm not mistaken we had a pretty highly rated class around 99 or so didn't we?
I remember Dubose having a class that was way up there like that and of course they floundered. the thing about having a class like Florida is having and if you remember Zook had several classes that were way up there too, is that you can still only start 22. Sure they will have a 4 or 5 star guy to come in for second and third string but no matter how good you were in high school if you don't play your not going to do very well. Remember Matt Cadell was a 4 star recruit we had as a backup this year and when he came in we didn't get much production from him.

I'm not saying its not significant, I wish we were having a class like that, but them finishing worlds ahead of us doesn't mean they will be worlds ahead of us on the field in a few years. I'm sure 4 years ago they had a much much better class than we did and of course we beat them like a yard dog this year.

Florida Recruiting

UA might be glad not to have Florida on the schedule for a while after next year. I'm not a Meyer fan in any way, but he is getting some big time commits.
I know stars aren't the determining factor on high school players being successful in college, but if you get that many of them there will be some studs. They still have to get them in school, keep them in school and make them play as a team.

Don't Underestimate the Tide either

Don't get me wrong I'm sure um will have great teams in the future but so will Alabama and as I see it, as well as this recruiting year is moving along Alabama will be in contention for both SEC and National championships. I have alot of confidence in our coaching staff and I wouldn't be at all suprized if we don't get a few top propects this year. I know college football is played with talent but it is also played with alot of heart.IMO I think within the next year no more than two we will compete with any team in our conference as well as out of our conference year in and year out.I see the Tide's Future as a bright one. Roll Tide !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone.

Texas has been doing that for years--how many MNCS have they had in the last two decades?

"im not a UM fan either but he will win SEC and a NC at Florida"

That's a heck of a statement considering um is basically an unproven coach. Yes, he had a little success at his former school but he's in the big leagues now. Also, it seems like the pumpkin has had several supposedly top 5 recruiting classes in a row now and look at all the success he had this year.
