I think Arkansas struggles to run the football in this game, but our inability to generate a consistent pass rush is concerning. I really like our DBs, but they'll have a hard time covering the Arkansas receivers if Tyler Wilson isn't pressured. We haven't generated much of a push so far from the defensive front, so I'd look for the coaches to get a little more creative with their blitz packages this week. Not to sound too arrogant, but I think Arkansas has very little offensive success if we can effectively pressure Wilson. Conversely, the Hogs will score some points on us if we don't get to him enough.

On the flip side, I'm curious to see our offense against an SEC defense. Penn State was a quality unit and Arkansas didn't have a good showing against Troy, but I still expect this to be the fastest defense we've faced thus far. We've struggled to establish the run against lesser defensive fronts this season and I think Arkansas will scheme to shut down our tailbacks. We'll need a strong showing from McCarron this week or we may not score too many points, either.

I actually wouldn't be shocked to see a low scoring affair in this one. I think Bama wins in the neighborhood of 17-10

Bottom line, Bama's offense is good enough to move the ball on Ark's defense, but I don't think they can move the ball on our defense. Bama doesn't give up many touchdowns at home.

This is a learning type game for Arkansas, much like OU was for FSU. As much as there seems to be plenty of offense in the SEC, defense still matters. Bama has it, Arkansas is still looking for it. Arkansas is not facing the same tired Bama team they did last year, and Bama is pretty much facing the same Arkansas team (minue Davis and Mallet). As much as defense wins in the SEC, so does running the ball and that is something Arkansas has done (and let's face Hogs fans, you can't denied that fact despite having a couple of solid RB talents).

I think this is a tough game for both and it will be close, but ultimately Bama "weakness" (offense) is better than Arkansas "weakness" (defense), and thus Bama takes control late in the 3rd and cruise to a solid victory.

33-14.

For some reason I think AJ is going to outplay Tyler Wilson.

I like 92tide thinking & was hoping my score would be top but here it goes.
Offense is better than credit given
All the dogs are turned loose
360 yards rushing for us 300 plus thru the air.
Trent Heisman talk gets put on same level as Luck
D does not allow a TD just 2 field goals (count on this)

If Kniles Davis were playing, might be a different story. I know the other running backs have done well (Wingo especially), but I still think Davis was better and that is why he was the projected starter until his unfortunate injury. The Bama defensive backs versus Arkansas receivers should be a great match-up for sure.
Agreed. Knile was the perfect back for us once he got rolling in the second half of the season last year. We still don't really know how Dennis Johnson will look and Wingo looks more like an incredibly physical wide receiver than a running back. I like Kody Walker big time and his future is very bright, but he is definitely not a home run threat. I won't call for us to lose this one, but it will be an exceedingly difficult win.

Interestingly though, neither team really knows crap about the other. You guys played Penn St, but once their emotion died down you physically dominated and didn't have to do too much to secure the W. We have played some cupcakes and nothing else. People point to the final score and the second half of the Troy game, but I think it was a combination of us being tied of playing crap teams, looking ahead, and coasting after getting up big. For those of you that only saw the final score of that game, we were up 24-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Our offense was looking scarily efficient and our defense was very physical. At about that time we basically shut it down and went to sleep. Troy didn't and came back roaring and with all the emotion. Take what you want from it, but I don't think either of our teams know exactly who they are and what they are capable of...maybe after this week a bit more light will be shed on that subject for both of our fan bases.

Arkansas 17 (one earned and one crazy out of the blue TD plus one long range field goal)
Bama 16 (one long drive TD and three field goals in the red zone) (maybe one TD, one FG and three safeties =)

One TD ??? against the vaunted Arky defense?? my how generous.

No one seems to remember '09.
This defense more resembles that year than it does last years squad.
Pressure on Wilson will not be a problem, if you recall in 09 Saban dialed up so many different blitzes that he had Mallett paranoid that the guy selling popcorn was about to hit him. Wilson should expect the same,,, is he ready for that??
No one has seen any of Saban's exotic blitzes from this team yet because we haven't needed them,, you will see them Saturday. Menzie will bring back fond memories (for Bama fans ) of Javy Arenas....
Wilson has never had the pressure of starting the game (and oh yes there is a difference) in front of 101,821 maniacal fans looking to see their teams first test. Couple that with the pressure of pre snap reads against the guy even nfl coaches say gives the most deceptive looks and the recipe is not promising for Wilson.
I see us picking up at least 10 points from early mistakes by your qb. Either that or he will become a legend Saturday,, because few fair that well their first time facing such...

Up till now Saban has played with o line combinations to have contingencies for injury,, he has said as much.. do you not believe him?
Anyone who knows o line schemes can tell you that we have been very vanilla and not using blocking schemes at all similar to Stoutlands previous work,,, Do you think we brought him in to change him? no , Expect differences on Saturday.

If Bama gets good qb play this one will be tough but comfortable,, if only avg or obvious qb inexperience from AJ and it will be a nail biter but Bama's D and run game will wear the piggies down and send em cryin "wee. wee. wee " allthe way home...
We hear the same Super Petrino crap every year and yet the results seem to be eerily similar.

Sorry Hogs but Percy told me ,,, johnny's loser----- tha hogs

Very difficult game to call. Both teams have been pretty vanilla to date.

I have little doubt that Arkansas is the best offense we'll face this season.

I have little doubt that Alabama has the best defense they will face this season.

If you stack up our offense against their defense and their offense against their defense I think we probably have a touchdown advantage.

Final score would probably be something like 28-21.(Arkansas is going to score points against us)

Now, throw in the two bonus additional touchdowns that we're going to score after we unveil the wildcat for the first time with Blake Sims at QB and there's your final.

Let me break it down for y'all. :)

Arky wins the toss and, given the unstoppable-ness of their offense coupled with Petrino's ego, they elect to receive the ball. The Hog offense comes out in their scripted best, connecting on a couple short passes, a draw, and a quick slant to get two pretty quick first downs. Penetration by the Bama D-Line stops a first down run behind the line of scrimmage, and a flare to the flats on second down is covered nicely for a short gain. It's the first third and long of the day for Arkansas, and Smart dials up a blitz. Wilson either sees a problem with Bama's defensive alignment or gets confused by the movement and calls for a timeout, giving Petrino extra time to draw up a play. Smart brings the blitz anyway. Wilson gets the ball away just as he gets leveled by Menzie, but the Arky WR makes a great one-handed catch to get a first down just past the Alabama 40 yard line. Having crossed the 50, Petrino goes for the jugular with a deep pass. Wilson is forced to throw it a bit too long because of the great coverage, and it falls incomplete. A draw and a well-defended quick screen get Arkansas to the Alabama 32 yard line, where they face a 4th and 4. Being on the road, Petrino plays it safe and goes for the 49 yard field goal. The kick has enough leg, but misses just a hair to the left.

Boosted by the momentum from the defensive stop, the missed field goal, and the roars of the crowd the Alabama offense takes the field. Arkansas manages to stop Trent for a short gain on first down. McCarron, however, throws a strike down the seam to Michael Williams on second down to move the chains. A second 1st and 10 and a second run by Trent which, this time, gains three yards. AJ connects on 2nd and 7 to Hanks running a drag route for 8 yards. Another 1st and 10 and again Trent runs up the middle. This time, however, AJ pulls the ball out of his gut, drops back, and hits Marquis Maze deep down the middle of the field for 58 yard touchdown.

On Arkansas' second possession, Wilson throws a couple of quick passes for another quick first down - another quick start for the Arky offense. A run on this first down, though, only nets two yards. On second down Wilson is looking for a play down the field, but feels pressure from the right side of the line and is forced to throw the ball away. On third down, Bama is going to bring pressure and Petrino knows is. He dials up a WR screen that is set up perfectly to the side the blitz is coming from. Childs will be left one on one with a safety playing well off the line if Wilson can get him the ball and the other receiver can block one guy. Wilson gets the ball out quickly toward Childs and, as the other receiver make his block, Childs lets the ball go right through his hands. Arkansas is forced to punt.

Alabama's second drive moves methodically into Arkansas territory, but a holding call at the worst possible time (is there ever a good time for a holding call?) stalls the Bama drive just inside the 30 yard line. Alabama, unlike Arkansas, connects on their first field goal attempt. The score is now 10 to nothing.

On Arky's third drive they finally put the pieces together, and march down the field - aided by one questionable pass interference call - for a touchdown just as the first quarter comes to an end. The score is 10 to 7 after one.

A penalty stops Alabama's next possession as well, this time still on their side of the 50. Mandell manages to get a decent punt away, though, and pins Arkansas just inside their 20. On this Arkansas drive, though, the Alabama defense is the unit that steps up, sacking Wilson on 2nd and 10 after an incomplete pass on first down and giving great coverage on 3rd and 16 forcing Wilson to throw the ball short of the first down marker. A good return by Maze puts Bama in business at the Arkansas 37 yard line, and the offense takes advantage. Richardson bursts free, after a couple of plays and a quick first down, for a 24 yard touchdown run to take those seven points back from Arkansas. The score is now 17 to 7. The two teams trade a couple of field goals and uneventful drives, and the half ends with Alabama leading 20 to 10.

Alabama gets the ball to open the third quarter and comes out fast, running from the pistol and not taking a huddle, and marches 74 yards for their third touchdown of the day giving the Tide its largest lead of the day at 27 to 10. Not to be outdone, Arkansas comes out with all guns blazing and quickly moves the ball down into the Alabama red zone. A bit of pressure by Upshaw, though, causes Wilson to throw an ill-advised pass over the middle which Mark Barron is all too happy to intercept for him. That's the last real threat Arkansas mounts.

Alabama moves the ball down the field after the turnover, but settles for a field goal. Alabama's defense forces another 3 and out, their third of the day. Alabama gets the running game going on the next drive, only attempting one pass. The Tide punts, but you can feel the game getting away. Arkansas, not yet realizing that the game is lost, scratches and claws on their next drive down to the Alabama 28 where they are forced to settle for a field goal. This is where the Alabama running game takes over. After a decent kickoff return to the Alabama 38, the Tide offense takes 11 plays, all of them runs, and over seven minutes off the clock in route to Richardson's third rushing touchdown of the day.

The Alabama defense adds a couple more interceptions to their tally as Arkansas is forced into reckless abandon and the Alabama offense grinds a few more minutes off of the clock with running plays here and there and then, mercifully, the final whistle sounds. The game felt really close, despite the score, throughout the first half. Throughout the second half, however, the game was never in doubt. The final score gives Alabama an impressive win over a top 15 team, racking up 37 points while holding the high-flying hogs to a mere 13 points.

Yep, 37 to 13. Sure sounds good to me. :)

Does Ark have a defense? Does anyone really think Ark is going to run on this defense? With That being a no does a one-dimensional team beat Bama? I say no way. If AL establishes the run it will be a disaster for the piglets and that's being nice. The Ark secondary is also in trouble too if they play as poorly as they have been. This ain't going to be who has the ball last wins. No one can honestly say that they believe Ark will just go up and down the field against the Bama D. The potential is there for That very scenario happening to their D though. 34-13 will time of possession being very lopsided. Bama wins baby!!!

Every year this board is flooded with Hog fans, moreso than any other opponent, that say they will whip us. It only happened about half the time, when we were in the pits and hasn't happened since Saban took over. Saban is still here and I can't foresee Arkansas breaking through this year.

Arkansas is a second tier SEC program and will never get above that. I'm not trying to be hurtful, just honest. Arkansas is not a rival, but merely another challeging opponent that must be dealt with every year.
