Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

How long is it going to take that law firm to read the federal prosecutor's transcript and declare ineligible the two basketball players whose families accepted Chuck's money. Those are facts even ESPN couldn't mess up.

How long until they actually fire Chuck, he's still just suspended? Probably trying to find a way to keep him on staff, make recruiting calls from jail.

Ya’ll do realize that $cam is a former student who “went back to finish his degree”. What are the chances???
(And I use the term “student” in this case very lightly.)

I think this came after cam though he got a degree on the quick

Auburn and ESPN in a fist fight. OMG! This is a tough one. I may have to flip a coin.

But (1) so far, the accuser keeps changing her story and has produced no evidence, (2) the internal investigation has turned up no evidence, (3) both the tutor and the former athlete deny it, and (4) even if it is true, it has zero NCAA implications -- it might result in the former athlete being denied the degree or required to take the exam over, and the tutor would surely be fired if it's true. But ONLY if some evidence pops up.

So far, this is just ESPN publishing the whining accusation of a person who lost their job. People can make up anything. Not only is there no fire, there's not even any smoke.

Why would they even publish this?

This particular story may not be producing significant amounts of smoke in and of itself but, like the wafting odor of manure, smoke has been incessantly rising from the barn for longer than I've been alive.

I agree - they said that ESPN was flat wrong. They have to have some solid information to say that so boldly, IMO.

However, if they are wrong, ESPN will drag this out FOREVER!

You have more faith in the media than I do. Remember all the stories of Teo’s girlfriend? Some incredible fact checking went on there. (Blue font)

I'm sure it will be proven that Auburn is as pure as the driven snow

OR

It'll be discovered this is residual manure that has been constantly thrown against the wall to see if any will stick against Bama from all these years.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

That was JJ badly fumbling a question in an interview. "Not to my knowledge." The department issued no statement that equals this one. Mum was supposed to be the word. He no doubt knew about the investigation. He no doubt had advisement from University Counsel and PR about how to respond. His choice of words should have been amorphous, so as not to draw attention to any party, but he fumbled the nuance. It's an easy thing to do, as anything other than a no is a pretty clear yes.

Big difference between the two. The statement above is a very emphatic rebuttal.

Come on, you're smarter than to believe the first statement put out by an athletic department. If what was alleged happened and AU knows about it they'd put out the same statement. Then, they'd just deny they knew exactly what happened. No university would come and say they were aware that a tutor took an exam for a player because then they don't have plausible deniability. This is PR 101 and every athletic department in the country would do the same thing regardless of what they actually know. BTW, I seriously doubt anything comes of this but not because AU looked into it and they say everything is squeaky clean. These things are darn near impossible to prove for the many reasons we've seen in the past..

Agree 100% - I kept reading, looking for some sort of confirmation - none. This kind of story should not have been published, IMO.

ESPN corrected the story in light of AU's statement. Lends it a lot of credence.

The irony in your response is golden coming from an athletic department that's had to correct several recent statements from Jay Jacobs..

What a stinking crap show of a university.
I hope no University is judged by the academic acumen of their sports teams. Especially the big money sports.

With that said, Some Universities try harder than others to hold players accountable in academics.
Therefore no penalty should be assessed for your appropriate observation.

Maybe they're looking for less political stories, or trying to gain back a few viewers from half the state of Alabama.
Y'all better check if this "teacher/tutor" ever worked for/with North Carolina Basketball players.
