I really should think things through more often. I had no idea that my thread would be the runway for so many suspensions. I feel like my thread is the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, a small event that led to a large war (WWI).

This may be a stupid question, but does the extra practice we would get to prepare for a bowl really help us next season? Seniors will be leaving, new recruits will be coming in, and we'd be preparing for a team we'll probalby never play again - at least not during any regular season. It just seems like so much stuff will be changing between this season and next that I guess I'm having trouble understanding how the extra practice would help us next season.

Of course, I'm hinging all of this on if we lose to Auburn. If we beat them, I'm definitley all for a bowl game. My question is really more for if we lose to Auburn and still get invited to a bowl.

I am dumbstruck that this thread started up immediately after one of the worse losses in Alabama history. Bama is on a three game losing skid and undeniably looking at the distinct possibility of finishing 6 and 6. Yet in the face of that situation this thread keeps right on moving along with discussion about weed eating and bowls of peaches. It kind of reminds me of the band playing on while the titanic sinks. :pDT_tit: :conf3:

At this point in time, I think we should accept ANY Bowl offer, if we even get one.
It's not just about the Bowl Game and only a casual fan would not know the bigger picture. NCAA allows college teams going to bowl games extra weeks of practice they would otherwise not have; they also provide the opportunity to end the season on a winning note. Not having those practices effect the next season.

I know what you mean. We have a monumental task ahead this weekend and we are starring down the barrell of a 6-6 season. If we don't pull the upset this weekend I don't think we go to a bowl at all. We have already talked about how many SEC teams will be bowl eligible, 10 maybe even 11. 6 wins will not guarantee a bowl game this season. And if we are 6-6 with a loss to UL-Monroe, what bowl game would want us? I am only thinking about Auburn right now, that is a one game season.

Oh and another analogy would be Niero playing the fiddle while Rome burnt.

You always take a bowl bid if offered (and not in the midst of a coaching change). If Bama accepted a bowl invite after last season, they would this one as well.

The extra practices are a huge benefit and can not be overstated. With the NCAA limitations on practices, it is like having a second spring football session. It only takes the coaches and players a few days to scout the other team, put in the gameplan and whatever few wrinkles they may be working on, the rest is just good hard practice on fundamentals.

It is a big thing and a big advantage. Can you imagine a college HC that would NOT want more practice time with his players?

Suspended players or not, a team that pounds tenn. and is one or two plays away from beating UGA and LSU has no business losing to the ULM chickenhawks. Tide needs the extra practice and CNS would definitely want more practice time with his squad, if for no other reason to set the table for the upcoming spring.

I'm sensing a Jim Mora moment here. Bowl game, bowl game, bowl game, are you kidding me, bowl game, bowl game, we've lost three in a row, bowl game...

In all seriousness a bowl game would definitely be beneficial. Many of you may not realize that most coaches, especially ones in the lower tier bowls use that practice time to work with a lot of the younger players. With CNS's latest comments I could see there being a couple of weeks of "junction" type practices. Gut checks are hard to do during the season without depleting your team during game weeks. I suspect you will see an extended gut check if we make a bowl game. I wouldn't want to play us in a bowl game with that being the case.

In all liklihood, this means no bowl at all. But for the fact that these guys sorely need the extra month of practice, I would say that not going to a bowl would be a blessing. As it is, if by some strange turn of events we somehow turn up in a bowl, I hope our staff spends the vast majority of prep time with underclassmen. I believe that too many of the upper classmen were so damaged by the ineptitude of the previous administration that they are all but uncoachable.

As for me, the season is over for me. I have no AU ticket and stopped looking for one when it was set for a night game at JHS. It's hard enough to get out of that place after a day game. After a night game, it would be lunchtime Sunday before you get out of there. Then, as far as bowl location goes. We've played our way out of what would have been a nice bowl trip in a nice destination. Now, if there is a trip it will be to a cold and possibly wet location--not my idea of a great way to welcome in the New Year.

In all bowl practices, 90% of the time is spent on fundamentals for next season. The bowl opponent and game-planning is a very small %, unless you are in a BCS bowl and going for the MNC. Also, the bowl game benefits both the conference and Bama in a major $ way. I'd suggest that all of our "we don't DESERVE it" posters sign up to donate enough to make up the difference in revenue. Listening.... I didn't think so...
