As much as I would like to see Simpson win the gig, do you really think a 30 second video shows us anything?

I've tried to extrapolate from similar videos, but I really think it's more about what happens when the lights come on with a real defense in their face.
It doesn't show us everything we need to know for sure, but it does show us something. in this very limited sample, Simpson was way, way better at anticipating the WR break, and throwing before the break/cut, so the WR was catching right when he'd actually be open. Milroe, and to a lesser degree Buchner, were throwing after the WR was out of their break/cut.

That is actually a big, important difference.

I have never understood why the backup QB doesn’t get to run the full offense in any game he gets to play in. It just doesn’t make sense to me to have him come in and hand off three times and punt.
People want to call it respect/class and not trying to run up the score. I’m like you let the backups run the offense/defense and let the other team stop it if they don’t like it. The heck with trying not to hurt the other teams feelings.

Sounds like QBs had an up and down day at the open practice today. Allegedly Buchner didn't look great, Milroe and Ty were up in down with maybe Milroe looking like the best one but some saying Ty looked better outside a really bad arm punt

Only one practice and an open one so 🤷‍♂️

Weird, reports I read made it sound like Ty simpson was the best one but who knows?? Still got all of fall camp to figure it out.

Honestly, not surprising.

I get the importance of timing and anticipating the route when he's not open yet. Sure, that's important and I wasn't saying it's not.

The video I saw was each guy throwing 1 o 2 passes in a offensive drill against no defender. Not saying Simpson didn't throw with the best anticipation or timing but that these little videos (as I understand them) are shot in a short media period when I imagine the QBs are just going thru some simple little drills to get warmed up.

I'm rooting for Simpson cause I think he's got the most upside, but I just don't think that video sets him apart until he can do that in a live scrimmage.

Arm punt = bad INT? What's the context? Forced it OR had 3rd and long and tried to hit one downfield that was the equivalent of a punt?

It seemed mixed some said Ty some said Milroe. But honestly more seemed to say Milroe.

Can you link the reports or are these just hearsay from fans present today?
I'm mostly reading stuff from.other boards. Mix of fans and "staff" on the board

Sounds like the ball slipped out of his hand I think it was picked. May have been because his hands were sweaty. He apparently was wearing multiple towels lol. And it was a hot day.

It's one practice so I wouldn't take it as definitive in any way.

However, at this point it sounds like Milroe is still QB1 in the order and I'd be surprised if he doesn't take the first snap week 1. Besides that who knows

True and you have to remember this is the word of media and fans not guys who have actually played the game.

IMO, he's likely #1 (first in the rotation) because of seniority. That's a CNS standard in cases like these.

I think the 2 closed scrimmages in the next few weeks will expose the true order for the coaching staff. We'll only hear some random scuttlebutt about it more than likely, but we won't know for sure.

If Milroe wins the two scrimmages, he'll start first game. If one of the other two wins both, they'll start. If it's a big mess of one having a day and then another who knows, but it could be Milroe by way of seniority. Back to basically where we are right now.

Agreed I think that's at least partially true. But that's also why I think he'll take the first snap. Idk what that means for the Texas game or the rest of the season though.

Could end up like Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts

I think all 3 leading quarterbacks will do great. I think the one that is most consistent throwing deep should get the start. Simpson had a good deep throw to Bond. Milroe had a couple as well. We definitely need the deep ball threat.
