As much as I would like to see Simpson win the gig, do you really think a 30 second video shows us anything?

I've tried to extrapolate from similar videos, but I really think it's more about what happens when the lights come on with a real defense in their face.
It doesn't.

I hope we all support whoever wins the job. I remember some eye rolling comments from previous qb battles on other boards. (and a few on this one). Almost like certain fans were upset that "their" guy didn't win.

Simpson seems to be the guy to me. UA put out some video of the 3 QBs throwing and Ty was throwing the ball as the guy was still in his break whereas Milroe was waiting until he had made his break and taken 3-4 steps. The transfer is a turnover machine, I don't trust him.
Is it possible that both ND transfers could have a bit of trouble becoming accustomed to the speed and and overall talent difference in the SEC.

Jalen was 1st team in A day game and i don't see any reason to think that's changed yet. Especially if no one is seperating themselves.
What's coach getting at "take the bull by the horns"?
What's exactly lacking from the 3 potential starters? Leadership? Skill? Field awareness? Effort?

I watched the same clip. Simpson was sharp and passes were right there. Milroe was all over (high, low, and behind). Buckner was ok, but not as sharp as simpson

Simpson was a turnover machine in the spring, but fans didn’t have the opportunity to witness it. We’ve seen Milroe have similar issues firsthand.

I do think whoever protects the ball best in camp without being too cautious will ultimately be the starter.

Well also remember practicing vs scrimmaging is very different. I would say we will know who is starting on the 19th.

Honestly I don’t care who wins the job. My only issue is how certain fans keep this nonsense going about how Buchner is a turnover machine or how can we trust a guy who couldn’t beat out a transfer at nd. The fact of the matter is that Saban wanted him here and felt neither of the two guys he had didn’t do enough to win the job in the spring or give him warm fuzzies about the fall.

I just hate these quarterback battles with no clear answer to who will win. Bama fans act like Twilight fans on picking their favorite.

I don’t think all turnovers are made the same in the blame category. I think forcing something to happen out of desperation and inexperience is different then just something that happened because you can’t read a defense or hit a slant over the middle. This is coming from a guy who really really really wanted jalen milroe to work out at the beginning of all this.

I think you give Milroe 6-8 touches per game. Whether that’s in the Wildcat. Or on the goal line. Or as a tight end. Something to make his year here worthwhile.

then let him transfer after the season and let him be a part of this.
6-8 touches throughout the season? In a game? nah. You don't steal reps from a starting QB...

2006 Florida
2009 Bama

are two that come to mind.

Florida did that a few years successfully.
I think I agree with '81 on this.

Only reason we did that in 09 is because McElroy hit a wall and really struggled about midway thru the season. That's why MI had to basically run the wildcat in the game against USCe. We didn't do it to "feature" MI but to rescue GM.

And when UF did it in 06 it was to work in an unknown star in Tebow, while Leak was the more experienced QB.

It's right the opposite with Milroe, in my opinion, being the most experienced guy. If by his Jr. year he can't run the full offense and we have a QB who can, why rob the starter of those touches?

IMO, Milroe can have the "blowout duties" and run as much as he wants to because we'll be trying to kill the clock. But if the game is on the line, we need the QB who can run the full offense the best.

I to this day think it would have made sense to give Jalen Hurts some short yardage or redzone snaps when Tua was the starter.

I'm not sure if I feel the same way about Milroe or not yet but I don't hate the idea.

Oklahoma did it with Blake Bell fairly successfully just as a short yardage guy. Some NFL teams have tried it at times as well. It also can protect your starter from hits they take on QB sneaks and such. Especially if you're using a bigger/stronger body type as the short yardage guy.

I do not expect to see an established starter until after the TX game. Who ever the starter is for MTSU may not be the starter for S FL. I expect someone to separate themselves in the TX game, and the stat line will not be the determining factor. See USC in 2016. Here is the stat line from both QBs

Blake was 5/6 with a TD. Jalen was 6/11 and had an int but he was clearly the better QB. I doubt fall camp will decide this, it will be live competition.

The bigger question is, I think you have to narrow it to two at some point. There is just not enough practice reps to go around. Which two will get the bulk of the reps heading into the last week or two?

Blake was a deer in the headlights in that game. Jalen also had 2 rushing TDs in the USC game whereas Barnett had 0 (and -10 rushing yards).

Blake's TD was after the game was in hand and Jalen was pulled.
