I see your point. However when we do pull a play out of our hat that isn't predictable, it doesn't seem to pay off either. The last couple of games we've tried reverses, fake punts, running to the outside, direct snaps... same results.
I don't know if predictability is a key issue?

i have never been a fan of going for two before the 4th quarter, it just seems it is a great way to throw away points. that being said, i at least praise shula for being aggressive. that being said i would have given a pinky finger for us to run one toss sweep when we were on the 4 yd line.
i still dont know about shula. the play calling is predictable and it sucks, but gene stallings called an even more predictable game, only then we had the linemen to make him look like a genious. i want to give shula one more yr, to show leadership and a team we can proudly say is Alabama. but under no circumstances can i give cbc one more yr. his techniques he teaches and the motivation he instills in that o-line is pathetic. even if we accept the line is young, it is still obvious they arent even slowing people down at times. get back to running over people and leave this finesse technique for other conferences. and for god's sake run the damn toss sweep!!!!!!

I started trying to guess what kind of play we'd run based on the formation and was probably 70-75% accurate.

Your only choices are 'run' or 'pass'. You could blindly guess 50% even before they broke the huddle...

I called a Kentucky friend, a Vandy friend, and a UAB friend.....I wanted to find out what our lives of mediocrity are going to be the next few years under Shula.:rolleyes:

Fran didn't recruit many Olineman bc he didn't need too. We were loaded there (Britt, Mathis and Smiley would all start for him as freshmen). He wasn't going to recruit any his first year bc those guys were all fresh off RS seasons his second season they were still rising SO and he took two. The situation is similar to last years where we loaded down on lineman and aren't offering any scholarships this year (two grey shirts but they've been traditionally hard to pull). The fact that you are saying we lost bc of the OL seems to indicate that you are unable to make the connection between performance on the field and work in the weight room and practice field. This team has failed to improve throughout the year (they've actually gotten worse each of the last 2 years as the season progressed). This coupled with the obvious coaching mistakes (losing the TO in the 4th qt./ never converting or going for a TD on 4th down) must in large part fall at Shula's feet. He makes 1.5 million a year to prepare these kids to play. This season he's failed in that job.

I hate to break it to you, but CMS has been there 4 years now,we have played 12 games this season. The young OL isn't really "young" anymore. I really think that if we had 3 seniors and 2 juniors up front, with the coaching they are getting...we still lose 22-15 today! I hate it for the players today and the seniors. They played tough and came out ready. A couple of poor coaching choices hurt today. If you have a weakness...FIX IT!!!!

Most olinemen are juniors and seniors because thats how long it takes to develop them. You think 12 games = expert oline? Think again. As for the past 4 years. We had great linemen...they graduated. Their replacements are what you are seeing now (1 true freshmen, 3 sophs and 1 jr). The oline lacks depth due to lack of scholarships from probation. It also lacks quality because I'm sure some of them were former walkons that have been granted scholorship now that we have enough to give. When you dont have fewer scholarships to give, an area of your game is going to suffer. As you can see, that area is the oline.

When asked if the program was headed in the right direction:

I don't know how to answer that question. I think so, just because I don't want to think that I've been here for four years and haven't gotten anything done. But it almost seems like that's the reality. I can't really answer whether we're going backwards or forwards. We didn't get the job done down the line this year. I mean, right now we're not doing it. I don't know if that's on the head guy or on the players, we just didn't get the job done today. Right now, the way it's looking, we're not going forward and if you're not going forward, you're going backwards. That's just a fact."

When asked what Shula said to the team after the game:

Things that he tells us all the time . . . that we're really close. It was kind of emotional, but some of it went in one ear and out the other, cause I'm concentrating on the fact that it's my last time here and I haven't beat Auburn, it's frustrating you know.

Castille has been a team player his entire career at UA. For him to say something like that is kinda uncharacteristic but it seems like an accurate assessment of all UA fan's feelings right now.

T Castille is nothing but class...........he has never tried to stir up trouble. I know his Dad too and they are so full of Bama and you know he is really hurting inside. The facts are we are not a well coached team period, and its time something is done about it.:mad:

wow.............i feel bad for those guys. for one of your senior guys to get up and talk like is huge. the players DO NOT have confidence in the coach. i think that if we don't make a change, it's gonna hurt recruiting.........recruits will see right through this, and if we keep shula, they will go elsewhere because of his uncertain future!

well I mean I don't blame him, his stats are 22 carries for 14 yards and 3 inches this year...

I didn't post this as an indictment against Tim, I just thought his comments as a leader on the team were very telling about the state of the players confidence in the staff.

First, please name one starting O-lineman who was a walk on? Second our OL hasn't improved at all over the last two years with many of the same players. Britt contributed on defense both his freshman and Sophmore years when we were actually really deep on the DL. Wouldn't a logical forward thinking staff have moved him to OL as a Fr or So. to give him more experience there (this was his 12th game at any level of football to play on the OL)

That's about as damning as it gets.

I feel for Tim. That kid has been the consummate team player, and we were lucky to have him at Bama.
