Predict Who Will Win the Heisman in 2009...

Just another way to get the juices flowing before fall camp starts, I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's take on who they think will win this award later this year. Again, not who you necessarily think deserves the award, but who you think realistically has the best chance to win it. My pick is Sam Bradford from OU in a repeat..

Tebow. He should have won it last year, too. It ain't all about numbers. IMO, he is and was last year, too, the best football player and college football representative in America. Period.

Having said that, I'm glad this is his last season for a myriad of reasons.

My vote is for Eric Berry :)........I would like to see him really in the running, but it won't happen.




I think Tebow will win it. It is definitely his to lose, IMO

Not most deserving, but who you REALISTICALLY think can win it. If Eric Berry played in Ann Arbor or South Bend, it might be a different story...;)

This is conditional...
(1) If Florida runs the table, Tebow wins it. If they lose, he doesn't win it... If he didn't get their votes in 2008, I don't know what he'll do in 2009 to convince the Midwest voters he deserves it.
(2) If Florida loses a game, and Ole Miss manages to get by with two losses or fewer, I think Jevan Snead has a good chance... Good chance that Bradford and McCoy split votes, some avoid voting for Tebow, and the darkhorse QB of a top 10 team from the SEC has a chance...
(3) Otherwise, it should be Colt McCoy. Bradford will not likely improve upon his numbers and performance from last year. It will be tough to give it to a QB whose numbers and performance go down...

As silly as it sounds, Matt Barkley may end up being a legit candidate... He looks to have grabbed the starting job in the Spring from Aaron Corp, and whoever is the starting QB at USC has a chance. If USC runs the table, which is rarely done but always a possibility, then their QB will be considered.

I don't think there are any non-QB legit candidates. Jaquizz Rodgers and Jahvid Best are not winning the Heisman.
 
Knee jerk reaction is to say Tebow, especially if they win the SEC and are headed to the National Championship. But it could be someone else - like McCoy (who is due, I reckon) or another big name... whomever it is I figure espn will let us know within the first few weeks of the season. They like to tell us who the candidates are, don't they?
 
If Florida is able to run the table with no hickups, then I think Tim Tebow will take home the hardware. If not, then it comes down to Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy. That all being said, I think Florida loses once in the regular season, and again in the SEC Championship Game (to Alabama of course). Sam Bradford doesn't put up the numbers he had in 2008, as Oklahoma only has one returning offensive line starter, and the loss of key recieving targets hurt. So, Colt McCoy is able to take Texas to the Rose Bowl and wins the Heisman.

Seriously, a more interesting thread would probably be to pick the Heisman dark horses. Its probably happened but I can't think of a time when the top three finalists all returned. Or when there was two reigning winners taking the field in one season. :conf3: Archie might have company after this season is over.
 
I'm takin Colt McCoy this year because they return 4 offensive linemen and have pretty much all the offensive weapons back to throw to especially Shipley and Oklahoma lost alot of their O-line so I think the puzzle pieces are together for McCoy to make a great run for the heisman and also Texas to go to the national champ game (because I think with Will Muschamp they will have one of the best if not the best defense in the Big 12, which isn't sayin a whole lot lol) but I'm pickin McCoy for heisman and Texas to go 12-0 in regular season.
 
Gary Danielson, speaking on the Finebaum show last Tuesday, said that Meyer will be adapting his offense this year to develop Tebow as more of a pro QB prospect. He said Tebow has always wanted to be an NFL QB, and that Meyer will make "subtle changes" in the offense to let him show scouts why he should be a top draft pick.

IF those subtle changes are successful, Tebow will be the runaway favorite for the Heisman. But if those changes result in a disappointing year, the outcome could be an unmitigated disaster.
 
Well, the SEC had their "once every 15-20 year" winner in 2007 so I would say someone from the Big 12 or Big 10 +1.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the media try and push the QB, Pryor (sp) from the OSU as at least a contender.

Unless GulfCoastTider's comments come to fruition. I had heard about the "tinkering with the offense" so as to dress it up for NFL consumption, and I think that's a mistake and potential disaster as you put it, GCT. Could work out well, but could blow up in their faces. Wouldn't upset me much if it were the latter.

I can't remember a year when so many high profile QBs were returning, including two former Heisman winners. (McCoy, Bradford and Tebow).
