I can tell you that the fact that OU offered Trevor Knight and got him to decommit from T A&M is a dead giveaway that we are out of the Gunner Kiel running.

I believe Kiel has already told us he's not coming to OU and we went to plan B. It appears that it's either IU or ALABAMA.
Owen,

thx for the insightful information. :)

Kiel to Bama is what I would preferred. Winston is a huge risk, even if he doesn't pick the MLB route, I think JW goes to LSU or FSU for the baseball/football appeal.

also, based on his previous comments, I don't feeled confident.

TideSports.com - Sooners QB Commitment is a Strange Tale
However, it's not every day that Oklahoma lands a commitment from a player who grew up wearing burnt orange and had been committed to fellow Big 12 South rival Texas A&M for over four months.

However last week Oklahoma quarterback coach and offensive coordinator Josh Heupel got in touch with the Knight family and asked them to take another look at Norman after last visiting in late January. Knight, joined by his twin brother Connor Knight and their parents made the trek to Norman and spent Saturday and Sunday hanging around Heupel, Bruce Kittle, and much of the rest of the Sooner staff.

Normally, I would agree. For some reason though, I don't feel too good about this one. Maybe it's just me. I'm probably spending too much time on the IU boards.
All the reasons that people think give IU the advantage seem to be drawbacks to me. Why would he want to compete against his brother in the same position? Why would he want to be close to home if he's visited UA 3 times and other campus away from home numerous times too? Why would he want to go to IU that hasn't had as many draft picks as UA if he feels he has a future in football which he has stated?

Then again, high school kid and no one knows what's going on in his head completely. I still feel really good about this

I have seen nothing on the IU boards to indicate that anyone on them have a clue. They keep creating and announcement date for IU and yet the day passes with no news. Remember in Kiel's own words he will not make a formal announcement. He will only call the coaches and let them know. After that it may leak where he is going.

OU is probably out because they picked up another QB, but aside from that no one has a clue, so I wouldn't read much into anything one way or the other. No one has had any idea what Kiel was doing next for quite some time now, and all of those ideas people thought they had a long time ago all turned out wrong anyway. No use even speculating on this one, really. Wherever he goes, he goes, whenever he goes there.

Either way, make no mistake, Kiel is our only real hope for an elite QB at this point. We'll get Winston if we want him, but he's MLB bound; it'd be about like signing Desmond Jennings all over again. Great talent and upside, but it doesn't do you a damn bit of good when you are facing a key 3rd and 8 against Tennessee and he's trying to stretch a single into a double in the Appalachian League. If we miss on Kiel, we're effectively starting over at square one.

Or like Hood and Ray. Imagine those two at WR the last few years...

Also important to keep in mind when looking at IU boards is that those folks, while probably good fans, aren't as sophisticated at following recruiting as some on this board. Not a knock on them, but how many big-time battles has IU been in for a recruit and how much experience do those fans have in gauging what's real and what's not with recruitment? If you spend enough time on these boards, you develop a good sense of what recruitment is all about. But it takes time and experience.

Whatever they estimate their chances are with GK, divide that by about a third. Until they've ridden the recruiting roller coaster a few times and had their hopes dashed, I consider them junior varsity.

IU has real a chance for Gunner. He is from IU, his brother plays there, his family really likes IU(reasons noted before), and they now have the QB coach from OU that has put alot of good QBs into the NFL. The SEC is a btter conference but if he is as good as advertised he will get to the NFL via IU. Seems to be alot of QBs in the NFL that came from small schools or not really competative BCS schools. I still like our chances but IU is in it. Maybe not as much as they seem to think since thier boards have him as a silent or a lock at this point.

Yes he will be able to make it to the NFL from IU, however he won't be surrounded by a team of championship level players and on TV every week. I'm not putting Indiana down, but if Gunner ends up there it will be because of his heart. We will offer him a platform to showcase his talent and win championships in the process.:BigA:

247 Sports has an article up talking about Gunner having Bama, Indiana and an unexpected team left on his list. I can't read it because it is premium. Wes Rucker writes for the Tennesse 247 site. He tweeted a link to an article which makes me think UT is the third team. I can't copy the tweets because I'm on my phone. Sorry.

sorry, I just cant see him playing for coach derp at UT. I dont think he can like losing that much. Indiana I get because theyre the home team. Just cant get wanting to wear orange and win 7 games a year when you dont have too.

It is Tennesee. They haven't been in it for months. I know his parents like UT a lot so I'm guessing they got him to reconsider them.

Read the article and all it said is he likes the UT coaches but it also goes on to say that he will not take any more visits per Kiel. Now the UT boarda are saying he will visit but that is some rumor someone started because they are quoting the article but yet it says different.

I feel for UT fans but all the article said is that the staff at UT keeps in touch and that he likes their coaches. The funny part is most of the article by the UT writer has more quotes about IU than any school. I think IU is looking good for Kiel. UT fans crack me up. It is J Scroggins all over for them. But they had a chance with him.
