A guy from work and I were talking the other day about the CB position. To us it appears we will be thin. Please help me out if I have missed anyone.

Kareem Jackson - might look at NLF draft
Dre Kirkpatrick
BJ Scott
Robby Green - played safety this year

Millner will be a true freshman

Unless I have missed someone we do not have much depth or game experience.

Phelon Jones, the transfer from LSU.

In addition to Milliner, we will add Belue and hopefully Fulton (announcing Dec. 17)

I seriously doubt Jackson will enter the draft. He has a chance to anchor our secondary next season and honestly...Marquis Johnson has had a much better year in big games.

The reason KJ is considering the jump is that he sees a traffic jam of talent at Corner which might limit his PT. In fact, they had him practicing at safety, which is part of the problem, since he sees his NFL future at corner...

I've heard we may actually just forfeit all of our games next year due to this.

Relax, vthere is a ton of talent back there. Jackson will probably be back, Phelon Jones is a phenom, Dre Kirkpatrick is lights out, BJ Scott should be ready for the transition (hopefully) plus there are possible shifts to be looked at back there. Add the incoming freshmen and expect as usual CNS manages to have at least one of them ready to step up in the rotation by fall and we have no fear.

I'm more worried about the leadership side of it than the athletic side. Javy has been a major part of the heartbeat of this team more than most realize.

It seemed like the quick slant was Jackson's kryptonite this season...until the SECCG. He could cover the deep routes, but the quick stuff was killing him. Like I said though, he did a good job in the SECCG of correcting this.

that'll probably drop b/c a lot of underclassmen are expected to go pro with the possibility of a rooke cap with the 2011 draft class.
This was done 1 week ago so I'm pretty sure that's accounted for b/c it had juniors and seniors in the list.

WOW thanks for this comment. Really uncalled for for my question.

Jones was a safety at LSU. You can't count on freshmen to come in a play right away. Millner will have a very complex defense to pick up and play next year. Not even Kirkpatrick could come in and take meaningfull playing time this year and he will be a great CB. I was just wonder if I had missed anyone. I know we will be fine.

couple of things...Jenkins and Haden both started as freshmen with the lizards (at least they were starting before the season was over, I'm pretty sure) and Haden wasn't even signed to be a cb. Millner is a 5-star, and with unohoo coaching him up, could be AA by the end of his sophomore year...I don't think our db situation next year is as bad as it looks.

Millner is coming in in January. Kirkpatrick said somewhere that he had an injury this year that has slowed him down some.

Dre had some fairly skilled cb's in front of him, too...and he was also slowed by injury.

Our CB's will be fine. KJ will come back, Dre/Phelon/Green will gain experience and be great.

I'm shocked at how much talent we have next year on defense. We all know we are losing some great players, but we return:

- Dareus
- Hightower
- Barron
- Upshaw
- Nico
- J. Harris

Which means that the following will have an opportunity to step up:

- Kirkpatrick
- Tana Patrick
- BJ Scott
- Phelon Jones
- Robby Green
- Sentimore

The following may return:

- Rolando McClain
- Kareem Jackson

Losing Ro would be a big loss, but we'd have Hightower back and a more experienced Nico Johnson. Our defense may not even miss a step next year, and our offense will certainly be better. The main area of concern next year is ST, because we lose Fitz/Tiffin/Javy.
