Question about going to Jordan Hare for the Iron Bowl

I've been to most of the Iron Bowl games down there and haven't had any problems. Expect the normal jabs thrown but just yell Roll Tide and move on. We're headed back again this year and expect payback for that fiasco last year.

I used to think it was no big deal... but in both 2007 and 09 some Auburn fans were verbally abusive to my wife in, at least in the 09 case, a very, very disgusting manner.

And... just for reference... I've been to Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park - the latter wearing Yankee gear - and have never heard anything of the sort directed to a woman before. She has understandably taken a pass on going this year. Maybe being there with Auburn fans might give you some shield. But be prepared for horrendous treatment.

I have been to the Iron Bowl game in Auburn twice. First time was o.k. after we put a beat down on them. The second time, my elderly mother wanted to go. I tried to talk her out of this "experience", but she insisted on going. We lost the game. As we walked to our car, the Auburn fans cussed me and mom. They basically have drunk, little urchins lingering outside their stadium for this purpose. It took every ounce of self-control to keep on walking. Once we got to the car, I asked mom "How did you like your experience?"

Needless to say, I haven't left anything in that God forsaken place that I ever care to go back for.

We went for the first time in '09. We never had been to AU before, so some Aubie buddies really took the time to show us the town, Toomers Corner, the campus, the baseball and basketball facilities...all very nice.

Before the game, we caught some good natured ribbing and a few comments, but not as bad as I was expecting. We were sitting among season ticket holders that have sat together for years, so I suspect our good treatment was a courtasy to our Aubie friends.

AFTER THE GAME, WAY DIFFERENT STORY! Going from the stadium to our car, it got ugly. I heard several Bama fans getting verbally abused, me and my wife included. Because my wife was with me, and fearing for her safety, we walked briskly and did not reply. I don't think it was alcohol that fueled the scene, it was flat out hate.

So, would I go back? Eh...51/49 yes. But, if you're the type that has a nice TV at home and would enjoy watching with some friends/family, perhaps that would be the way to go. I'm glad we went to witness such a great game, but I'd be lying if I didn't say the post game antics really soiled my attitude towards AU's game day experience.

I've never had a bad experience there. As said by boosterto, it's not much different than the normal heckling you'd get at any away game. I've been to games there in 99, 01, and 09 (all wins). I'll be there this year also.

I go every other year wearing Bama gear. Some drunk students will yell stupid stuff, but it is not like you are going to get jumped. Enjoy the game.
