to be our D coordinator? He is a graduate from, former player at UA. He always has good defenses and he has expressed interest in coming back. Is it more UA not wanting him, or him only wanting to come back as head coach?

Just curious, but it would seem like a good hire if we ever wanted him.

By the time Mickey's name came up the feeling from most insiders was that he was too old. Also, if you remember prior to Coach Shula being hired...it had ALWAYS been Bama's policy to hire only Proven head coaches. The one trial gone wrong was Dumbose.

BAMMAR, his staying for the opportunity to become head coach sounds likely. Feb 2001 he turned down the Titans offer as Def Coor, made the visit and seemingly was entertaining the opportunity to return to the Pros when Daddy Bowden and AD Hart met with him with a convincing appeal and a bump in salary. We can only speculate the appeal. At the age of 62 his most logical opportunity is to hold on at FSU in hopes of an offer, if Bobby does not out last him, IMHO

Let me clarify. I am talking about why we have never gone after him as coordinator, not as head coach. But in his career at FSU - why have we never pursued him? Or have we and he only wanted to be HC, which we all know would never happen anyway. But he would seem like a good candidate for D coordinator and we have seemingly never gone after him. He has been at FSU for over 10 years I think. We have had a lot of D coordinators in that time, and he would be someone that I would have thought we would have gone after. Just wondering why it never happened.

I beg to differ that Alabama's policy was to ALWAYS hire only proven head coaches.

J.B. "Ears" Whitworth - still had a year left on his first HC job at Oklahoma St. State was glad to let him go.

Frank Thomas - assistant backfield coach at Georgia.

I haven't researched all our past coaches but those 2 popped up quickly in my mind.

These are very interesting comments!! I have heard Tony Basil was ALWAYS interested in Coach Andrews, something about "Oh Mickey you're so fine you, you're so fine you blow my mind hey mickey, hey mickey!"

But of course, I. . .could be wrong. . .

Andrews (#44) would never have been interested in the DC job unless it were the stepping stone to the HC job. That just could never have worked out...
