Questions about Sugar Bowl! TIA!

Sorry if this should be in another thread, but I am planning a trip to the Sugar Bowl (possibly) and desperately need some help!

1. I have a refundable hotel booked, but am probably going to purchase nonrefundable game tickets, if I decide I can't go a few days before the game, do you think I will be able to sell the tickets (probably lower level endzone) a few days before the game?

2. Are there any events for Bama fans in New Orleans? (Like a rally, time to hear the band, meet players, hear speeches, etc?) If so when and where?

3. Where does the team stay? I saw someone say the Hilton, is this correct? If so which Hilton?

4. For anyone who lives in New Orleans or knows the area- I currently have the Renaissance Pere Marquette (on Common street) booked, we will need to walk back from the super dome after the game, is this a completely safe walk that late at night for just two people? If so, is this a nice hotel?
5. I would have to drive from Birmingham, does anyone know how the drive is?

1. yes - you shouldn't have any problems selling the tix a few days before the game.
2. There is usually a pep rally, but I'm not sure when it will be.
3.Hilton Riverwalk is usually where Bama stays when at the Sugar Bowl.
4. No clue about where this is.
5. The drive from B'ham is between 5 1/2 to 6 hours - depends on traffic and how fast that you drive. The drive itself isn't that bad, but it's awfully boring through Mississippi.

Question 4:

Going to be a decent hike back, but it will be full of people and generally not a bad walk to make as it is mostly lit up. Also you will have lots of people leaving the game heading to the quarter so you won't be alone I'm sure!!

On the walk question, just the usual common sense rules for there -- stay with a group (even if you aren't really part of it, walk close enough to look like you are), be aware of your surroundings, and resist the temptation to cut down smaller, darker streets, even if it looks like a shortcut and you can see through to the next block -- stay on the main roads, Bourbon, Toulouse, etc.

Superdome parking will be available, but will be on first come basis I'm sure. At least it was like that last year.

Parking usually opens 2 hrs prior for normal games, there is plenty of parking available in lots around the dome. You can park in one of them and walk through the mall that connects to the Dome.

As far as walking to Bourbon from the Dome that is not a little walk it is a pretty long hike....... Flag a cab and pay the $5 and save your energy for Bourbon street.

Just made the drive from New Orleans to Alexander City for thanksgiving and it is a 6 hour shot from there so I would say 5 - 5 1/2 hours at most from B'Ham.......

Just a piece of advise since I don't post much anymore, do not go past Cats Meow on Bourbon it is the Gay section and it gets pretty dicey if you get off Bourbon as far as safety is concerned. I would suggest sticking to Bourbon unless you KNOW your way around because there are alot of predators waiting for tourist coming down for the Bowl game and they would just as soon shoot you as look at you.

One last thing if one of these morons comes up and bets you they can tell you were you got your shoes at just simply tell them no crap on my FEET and they will know you are not a newby~!~

Also, do you think it's better to sit on the Utah side (not in a Utah section, just near their bench) in a lower level sideline seat or a lower level corner seat over on the Bama side?

I travel between Birmingham and New Orleans often. It is a long drive. 5 1/2 to 6 hours. When I can, I take the train. It takes and extra hour and a half (so it is a 7 1/2), but I think it is worth it and It is only $35 each way. The Train station is also within walking distance to the Dome (4 blocks).

I work next to the Superdome. There are plenty of parking lots either across the street or next to the Superdome that will be open almost all day. The cost ranges from $25-35.

From Bourbon to the Dome is a hike. It is about a mile. There should be plenty of people walking, but be careful! It just depends on how far you are willing to walk and how comfortable you are with the city. I live and work in New Orleans and I love it, but the crime is horrible. I know the city very well. I am a female and during the day I would make the walk by myself, but at night I would probably only do it if there were other people with me. If you walk stay on the main streets, Poydras, Canal, St. Charles, Carondelet. The cab ride between the Superdome and where ever you are going is going to be $4 a person because it is a special event. If for some reason, they turn the meter on it should be between $5-10 for a cab from the Superdome to Bourbon Street. I also recommend United Cab.

There is a block party at The Rusty Nail (1100 Constance Street) before the game, sponsored by the New Orleans Alumni Association. Check out our website for a complete list of events.
