Razorbacks Continue To Map Plan for Alabama (link)

"You really have to go against all 11 because they blitz," Petrino said. "They like to bring a bunch of different pressures."

You see comments like that quite a bit and I know the perception of Saban's defense has always been lots of complicated blitzes. But I don't know that we've blitzed an awful lot this year, except possibly on third down. We seem to have gotten decent pressure from the front four in most cases and don't blitz that often. I think we've seen a lot more stunts than blitzes. Am I wrong?

No, you're not wrong at all. We blitzed more last year from necessity, but the arrival of St. Cody, and his best bud, Chapman, along with Zo getting to play his natural position, and on and on, has made a new game on the defensive side. We've been getting pressure without risk. When we've used the blitz, it's been really blitzkrieg, for shock value and especially on passing downs. Personally, I don't think they'll know what hit them at the end of the day. But the game's still got to be played...

To add to that, the Bama "base gameplan" was designed before the start of the season. They are basing those statements against what we did last year. I'm sure they have looked at our film from the past 3 weeks and made some adjustments but when you hear them refer to blitz happy, it's based off last year or CNS teams of the past.

That is the beauty of it. We have not come often due to the pressure the DL can provide. I can't wait to see what Saban may be able to due with the talent we're getting on defense.

It is very common in a 3-4 to bring a 4th guy. Sort of like playing a 4-3, but you don't know where he is coming from - but he is coming.
