Tough to get the ones UT wants...

IC has a season-long full court press awaiting.

I'm hearing that someone in Brown's camp says Brown was ours if we wanted him but that the perception out there is that our staff has slow-played him and focused almost entirely on Crowell, and that because of this he may be leaning toward staying home. I had a really hard time believing this as I have always thought Brown was at the top of our board, no slight intended toward IC, who I think may be just as good after watching his videos. Can anybody refute or verify this?
dman, I know others have already refuted this, but how reliable is the source that this came from? I just find it odd that a few hours after you post this, Brown suddenly announces for Texas.

I suppose CNS will make Crowell top priority at RB (if he already wasn't) but it is still a long time 'til NSD and I have my doubts CMB will completely change his offensive scheme to feature a RB in a power running game. I'm sure he will have the ball handed off more but expect the RB to be used mostly on 3rd and short.

Seriously?! Why? Why on earth?
Because he's a Texas kid. I expect the Alabama guys to stay home too. I'm can't fault him. It's not as if Texas hasn't produce a solid running game under Mack Brown. They just have to get back to that style of play, to offer Malcolm Brown what he wants. I suspect, that with Brown's talent, that will be the case.

Couple of yrs ago Texas came after Dre Kirkpatrick extremely hard and we all were pleased as punch that Dre decided to stay home. Same situation with Malcolm Brown and Texas. I didn't have high hopes for him coming to Bama in the first place, so I am not disappointed.

Hated to see this. I was really impressed with this young man. Good luck to him! This is my first year to follow recruiting closely, mostly in part to the quality info I get from this site. I have to say, at times, it can be stressful. I have faith in "The Process" so I'm confident we will find a capable RB recruit that will represent us well. RTR

... This is all I needed. Great point. Everyone should read this. It needs to be bumped. And I'm out the door with one last note. We'll be seeing Mr.Brown and Mack Brown again one day. And I think our LBers will have a thing or two for him.

I wish Brown the best of luck at Texas. He handle his recruitment with class all along the process unlike some other recruits as of late. The fact that we finished in his top 2 with Texas, his home state and another elite program, speaks volumes. RTR

What sux is that the state of Alabama rarely produces a top tier RB or a QB for that matter, so we have to go out of state to find one. It does help being close to one of the biggest talent producers in the country(Fla), but it sure would be easier if we had some homegrown to pick from.

True that. We're stuck with leftovers like McCarron and Winston.

People need to chill out with saying chill out. More people are freaking out over people freaking out than freaking out over Brown. All I saw was some disappointment expressed...which is understandable.

This is not a shocker. Since he wanted to commit before the season, Brown was obviously going to pick Texas. The real question is whether or not the Longhorns will actually stick to running the ball this year. Its still a long time until Feb., and with Brown's added size this summer he is certainly going to want to play somewhere that provides a power running game. Plus, I think this should get Crowell to put Georigia behind Bama once again in the race for his services.

What state DOES produce a 5-star athlete like that except once in a blue moon?

I am here in Baldwin County, and we saw Julio and Fluker at Foley, Trent Richardson just across the state line in Pensacola (we actually saw him play against Alma Bryant), and Robert Barron, A. J. McCarron, and B. J. Scott in Mobile -- all within a two-year period -- and they all came to the Capstone.

We will be fortunate to see that happen again in my lifetime.

Malcolm Brown is an impact player of that caliber. I wanted him at Alabama. He chose Texas. I'm trying to get used to it. He's a big back who can move -- the perfect Nick Saban running back. Mack did have Ricky Williams, but has he had anyone else even approaching such speed and power together? I'm not sure if Mack recruited, or inherited, Williams. Has Urban Meyer, whose offense resembles Mack's, had a back at all like Brown, Williams, or Richardson? No, not even close.

I felt like this regarding Reuben Randle, before I realized Saban emphasizes the running game like he does. But Reuben is not in a good place to develop at LSU. Saban is geting the most out of Ingram and Richardson. He would have gotten the most out of Brown. I'm not sure if Mack even knows what to do with a back like Brown.
