Recruiting Perspective

What we've learned: If a guy does not pan out, it just wasn't in the STARS for him to do so, heehe. Sorry could not resist the cormn pun.

The way I look at is exactly what ChucK Amato said: "There's plenty of good players out there for everybody, it's just what you do with them, when you get them there". I believe that. And like I've always looked at is like many of you have pointed out, the evaluations between a recruiting analyst compared to those of a real analyst (the coaches) vary widely.

One observation that I'll make is that I've seen it on here before. We beat out Southern Miss and Miss State, Memphis and Slippery Rock for this guy, heck he's gotta be mediocre at best. I've seen guys at Memphis that I'd like to have, Southern Miss, etc., but like many others because he was not ranked (starstruck as I like to say) so high coming out, I really did not think about it him not inking until 2 or 3 years later when his making plays against us. And then you say, yeah that's that NR guy that was offered by USF and Southern Miss only. It's vey funny to see, and you hear rumors about programs jumping on the bandwagon of other programs, i.e. Miami, Oklahoma, FSU have all offered heck he must be the next H Walker, we better offer too. Point being, don't get caught up in who we supposedly beat out for a guy, it does not mean that the big programs did not want him, but there's only so many slots (the Bryant days are over when UA had more athletes on the sideline than AU had on the field) and needs here and there that must be filled by each program and the 5 star said yes before you did, too bad, or we'll take our offer back now that Jason Jack wants to ink. Yeah I'm sure there's a little 'dang, I wish we had offered that guy 2 years ago instead of this decoration piece'.

Makes you wonder...

about all the potential that has been over looked thru out the years, that didn't get the opportunity to play major college football. Ex. Jerry Rice, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, and Terry Bradshaw to name a few. So recruiting is certainly not an exact science.

Exactly
Look at some of the schools attended by guys playing on Sunday, there have been a few I knew nothing about. Speaking of that, I like watching Monday night football and listening to the starters for each team during their first series tell their schools from college. Antwan Odom the other night said Roll Tide, that was cool. Anyway the LB (Boiman) for TN siad Dallas Christian HS, he played at ND, I wonder if he was just mad at the firing of TW? You know L Coles never mentions FSU, but that's b/c he was kicked out I'm sure. I know thats's off the subject, but interesting.
