Boise will probably have three - Young, Pettis, and Jeron Johnson. But, I'd say that either way the argument goes doesn't mean much. If Boise has more NFL draft picks as any other WAC team, would that not mean Petersen did a great job developing them? If Boise doesn't have as many NFL draft picks, would that not mean he was doing a great job getting the most from his players?
yes but that proves they have superior talent in a big conference the talent level is almost equal. almost every team in the sec has nfl players. same can be said about any other conference. tcu can have the exact same argument here watch them when they play wisconsin by everyone thinking process its an equal match up correct? wisconsin by 14+ will win. listen to the guys at espn they will tell you boise has far superior talents than anyone they face. thats why they have won that conference like 10 years in a row. do you think he could win the sec or the national championship ten years in a row?

This thread ...... me off.

No Bama fan in their right minds think Saban is going to UF, and for UF to even for a second think that they could get him is a major joke. Bama is a better program and job, end of story. We had a horrible down year, and ended up going 9-3 and being 4 points away from another SEC Title game. We out-recruit UF, have better facilities, more money, a better fan base, more tradition, and the ability to go undefeated every single year. All of this "Relax, UF isn't getting Saban" stuff is a slap in the face.

31-6 :BigA:
I didnt mean any disrespect at all....I simply commented on the FACT that someone on this board started a thread about the ridiculous rumor of Saban to UF. The rest of your post is simply your opinion, and understandably so casue you wear crimson glasses. But if you look, recruiting is very close, and flip flops most years. As far as the facilities, money, fans, ect...I feel the same way about UF. Its called being a fan.

Thx! Im actually enjoying the responses here for the most part. Lots of opinions and knowledge being kicked around, without much smack talk. Thats one thing i like about this board.

name five guys from all the teams in that conference you might find three all together. boise has three alone.
Circular reasoning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petersen is bringing in the same caliber recruiting class as the rest of his conference. Titus Young? Low grade (5.6) 3-star on rivals. Pettis? Same case. 1000 yard RB Doug Martin? 2-star. Moore? 5.5 3-star. These are all the caliber of recruits big schools scarcely bother with; these are the caliber of recruits that comprise most WAC recruiting classes. But despite their being WAC caliber, they're either made to look much better or are simply developed much better.

Florida buzz today focused on Harbaugh, Petersen, Edsall, Muschamp, Sumlin, Fedora
That is Joe Schad's Twitter. Florida would actually go after Larry Fedora?! The others seem like good choices, but what has Larry Fedora done at USM?

I don't know why Coach Stoops would leave Norman for UF. He can stay for a few more years, win at least 10/year, and etch his name into the annals of Sooner lore as one of its greatest coaches. They don't have to play the same caliber D we play with in the SEC, and I think the conference is softer in general.

I think UF has to be looking for someone who isn't at a premiere program already.

I've been wrong before but I dont like Petersen to UF. Whittingham or somebody if the same stature like Mullen, etc. needs to be there. If they hire someone that doesnt run a spread option type offense, is going to have ATLEAST 3 years to get their guys in and I'm not sure they will wait that long in Gainesville. Everybody said the 1st Boise coach would be great but Petersen better talk to him first because the SEC is a monster he's never seen before.

Boise St. coaches have not done as well outside of Boise. I think one former coach that was pretty good at Boise st. was recently let go by the U. of Colorado. I don't know if Peterson would be a good hire or not.

In a dream world
rangerman,
Boise's resources are equivalent to teams in their conference. If the talent level is not equal, that's because Petersen is an excellent recruiter, which would be a skill he could use in a big conference. If the talent level is equal, then that would be a testament to his gameday coaching ability. No matter how you break it down, he's competing against similar programs in terms of capabilities. The only unfair advantage Boise has is that stupid blue field.
I actually think Petersen is a gifted evaluator. Kellen Moore is not an NFL QB, but was perfect for the Boise offense. He was a Rivals.com 3-star guy (like other WAC QBs like Colin Kaepernick and Colt Brennan). Ian Johnson, Ryan Clady, Kyle Wilson, these were all two-star guys.
I think the mentality is different in the sec. You cant coach your team up for one or two games a year like he does at boise. You have to have them ready every game and that is why those coaches continue to fail.

Peterson would succeed in the SEC but not at the same level he is at Boise St. Look at Meyer. He's had great success but he's gotten his butt handed to him on several occasions, three times by Alabama. He's far from "dominated" the SEC. Peterson and BSU have dominated their conference. That wouldn't happen in the SEC.

The mentality is clearly different, but I am just arguing against people saying Petersen is Dan Hawkins, and is bound to fail. I think Petersen at Florida wins 9-13 games a year.

I think its funny that you guys even entertained an idiotic rumor like "Saban to UF" by starting a thread for it. Knowing that its very early, and things can change very fast, all rumors are pointing to Boise St coach Chris Petersen.

If true, I like the pick. I think his O can win in the SEC, and would be excited to see what he could do with the talent UF brings in. Which brings me to why Im not so crazy about the pick...can he recruit here? No ties to the state, or the SEC states for that matter. He has pulled a few from the south here and there, but no one that stands out. BUT, CUM (as you love to call him) didnt have any ties either...

So, heres hoping the UF/UA rivalry will be back greatness soon....
not sure if most people really entertained it, they just posted what cowherd had mentioned, which was probably in farce. Some people aren't sure when hes being making a joke or talking to stir the pot.

Well, lets not crown Petersen yet. ESPN Insiders are reporting that Florida is in negotiations with Bob Stoops. On one hand, there are plenty of reasons for him to stay. Those have been hashed out multiple times in multiple threads. But, there are reasons to leave. You look at Tuberville at AU, Richt at UGA, Spurrior when he was at UF, Fulmer at UT, there seems to be a trend where a kind of staleness sets in around tens years with a program. Sometimes, coaches can reinvent themselves and overcome it and sometimes a change of scenery is in order. And I don't buy that he would like to stay at OU because its easier. He wouldn't have taken the OU job to begin with if he wanted to take the easy route. Good coaches want to coach and recruit against the best and the SEC is the place in that respect. You're guaranteed that your games are going to be televised almost every single week.

Yeah, I apologize.

I still can't believe there was a thread somewhere about Saban going to UF...started by our own fans. What a joke. I must have missed it?

As far as the UF job, I get all of the updates from twitter, but at this point it is day 3 of a very high profile job search. This thing is going to take some time.
