Here’s the deal with Freeze… now I can’t verify but the guy was adamant. About two weeks ago, I was discussing the coaching possibilities with a coworker (Bama grad). When I mentioned Freeze he said absolutely not and he told me he’d bet me whatever I was willing to wager. His neighbor has a family member on the Barn BOT, and said Freeze to the Barn was DOA. Guy got really animated, too; not 100% certain he was saying it in the hopes it wouldn’t happen or if he really had an inside source (no reason to doubt him). But I’d never seen him so hyped up before, and he’s solid Bama. TIFWIW.

Right. I will never equate an NFL team with college players. They are professionals, and even though we've got NIL today, collegiate guys are still not professionals and never will be.

But it was said by someone else in this thread, it's interesting to me that Nick Saban's infamous comment of "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach" was more about OUR bungling... and the last minute Rich Rod circus... that made him give that comment. He was in essence saying, look Alabama has bungled this and it looks like I'm not going to be their coach.

Anyway... I'll be disappointed on multiple levels if Lane goes to Auburn. And ultimately, I'll predict that it will not end well and the stay will be brief.
I always read Coach Saban's comments as "Look, I have a job to do here and I want to devote my full attention to this job. You guys will not stop asking me about the Alabama job, and if I say point blank I ain't going to Alabama you guys might stop asking me about that job so I can focus on this job."
Maybe I'm naive.

I agree...he was not coming, until he was...so, he didn't lie...he just didn't tell the whole truth. TOSOTC, is that the press thinks they are entitled to know everything -- and they are not. I really don't blame any coach for denial in such circumstances, for technically they have signed nothing.

It’s on the Ole Miss message boards from their moderator that Kiffin told the team and coaches tonight that he’s staying. Two coaches and a few players confirmed to this moderator that Lane said that. Now they think Freeze will be the new Auburn coach. Who knows though.
Now THAT is what I was talking about...

CNS had made it absolutely clear through his agent Sexton that he was not talking to Mal or representatives of the University until AFTER the Dolphins’ season was over. Now Mal did get information to Coach Saban via Chuck Moore, Mal’s nephew, and Sexton. But much of this information was about planned capital improvements for the athletic program and where the facilities program was going.

And I truly believe if Wayne Huizenga had told Nick he wanted him to honor his contract, Coach Saban would have.

All you need to do is look at Huizenga’s comment when asked by a reporter about Coach Saban had handle things and “lying to him”.

“The answer is no, I’m not upset,” Huizenga said. “Because it’s more involved than what you think … I feel the pain of Nick and Terry and it’s not a very simple thing.”

So now this morning it's being reported Kiffin told the team he plans to stay at Ole Miss "unless something significant changes". So I guess if someone sweetens the deal he still could leave.

The Ole Miss insiders. The 247 and On3 guys are seriously at odds.

There's a lot of sound, fury and stupid right now.
247 is a big reason I don’t believe people like Josh Pate during “coach rumors”. They love to run stories and start hypotheticals based on little to no credible sources.

It’s why anything that is coming out about the Auburn coaching search should be treated with a grain of salt at best. I’ve talked to several reliable sources for Auburn and they were shocked by the Kiffin news and said all that was coming out was news to them. Most of them believe it’s mostly internet rumors that Kiffin is using to his own advantages and Auburn is more concerned about the iron bowl right now more than anything else.

We play that Cow College across the state in 2 days. There’s been very little talk on the board it seems, about that game. Why are WE seemingly obsessed so bad with who THEY hire as a coach?
Because we're just a bunch of college football fans and no matter how much we "get ready" for the big rivalry, none of our efforts will have any impact on how well the good guys do their jobs.

And, jabbering on and on with juicy internet rumors about our rivals are why the internet was invented.

Because we play them every year? Because we compete with them in the same division? Because they are one of our top rivals? Because we live/interact with their fans virtually every day?
