Restaurant suggestions for T-town?

Cypress Inn is really good if you ask me. Your not even gonna see Drew Henson so it doesn't really matter what his personaility is, although he has been nothing but nice to our family.

That's because your spending lots of dough in his restaurant when he talks to you I'm sure. I've dealt with him outside of spending money in his place, and it's not pleasant. But you are right, you most likely won't see him if you are there, so enjoy.

Ok, I will mention this again since it is not well known. The best BBQ place in town is located in Northport on Charlie Shirley Road. The name of the place is the Brown Bag. If you like ribs, they are large and meaty. They also have catfish, pork and veggies. They even have wings and burgers. Their sauce is a mustard base and is the reason I eat there once a week. If you like Fried Green Tomatoes you need to have theirs. Also don't forget to get cake!!!

Also Steve's in Northport has a great burger, but their steak sandwich is awesome. They have also recently installed telesweep machines, for those who are interested in that sort of thing. You must be 21 to enter now, so take that in mind if you have a family.

I am looking for a good steakhouse to take a client who is going to a game with me. Has anyone ate at Twelve? Is it comparable is to Ruth's Chris or am I better off driving up to B-Ham? If it is comparable in quality, do they take reservations? Do they have a website?

Any particular cities/restaurants in Texas you'd care to mention. I absolutely love Jorge's Uptown Enchilada Bar in Austin. I also love the Casa del Rio on the Riverwalk in SanAntonio.

I moved from Tuscaloosa to Austin 5 years ago. For barbecue, Rudy's lean brisket is unbeatable. For Mexican, we like ZuZu's. Mangia's chicago-style pizza is also excellent.

There's a new website for game day info.

Go to www.uagameday.com

Click on visiting fan info, then places to eat. There is a long list of restaurants.

One BBQ place I like is The Pottery Grill in Coaling on Hwy 11.

Well...I've now been to MugShots. Met some friends there before the scrimmage, today. I passed on the 'McDonald which someone above suggested. The menu says that it has ranch dressing on it. I'' never understand why so many restaurants ruin so many perfectly good items by putting that vile stuff on/with them. So, I had the "PatO and it was indredible. Couldn't eat there too often. My cardiologist would lock me up! But It was a great burger! I'll definitely be going again.

Rudy's brisket is great, but their sauce is not. I still prefer pork BBQ, but I have learned to make a mean brisket myself since I have been here.

Hmm, there are MANY places in San Antonio that I miss very much:

Magnolia Pancake Haus for breakfast

Rosario's, Los Barrios, La Fogata are some of the excellent mexican food places. I even like Alamo Cafe

Rudy's has a big reputation, but honestly I thought it was overpriced. I actually liked County Line better but then it is not "true" Texas BBQ so go figure.

man the list could just keep going. Couple more dining choices than we've got here in Prattville now.

Couple of major chains I like....Pappasitos and Ninfa's. Fantastic mexican food. There's a place on 1960 in Copperfield(Houston suburb) that I assume is still there called Amelia's. Also very good. Not to mention countless little neighborhood places.

You mentioned Casa del Rio in San Antonio. One of the best in Texas. I tried going there back in March. It was around 8:00 pm and they had stopped putting peoples names on the list because it was so busy. Needless to say I was extremely disapointed.

Can't really comment on Austin area restaurants cause I haven't been there in about 13 years.

Any place that serves up brisket and sausage is "true" Texas BBQ to me. Good luck finding that stuff in Alabama.

My husband has been there on a business dinner. He said it was good. As I said above, they do charge by the pound. I believe he said it was something like $45 a pound for a porterhouse and there was a minimum on each cut of meat. (I think he said 1.5 lb on the porterhouse). I don't know about the reservations. Not sure if they have a website either.

There are not any real steakhouses here in Tuscaloosa other than the chains, Logan's, Outback, etc. I would suggest Yazoo Grill. It's on 7th Avenue just off Bryant Drive. They have good steaks as well as other items. Also, Evangeline's, Kozy's and the Globe are all places I would suggest to take a client here. Hope this helps! :)

Hey guys, first time poster here and really enjoy the site. The last time I was in T-Town for a ballgame was about 25 years ago, Perkins was head coach and Coach Shula was under center. I've got my tickets and hotel room for the Hawaii game and need some info. The strip that has been referred to in other post, is that McFarland? :conf2: Also are there any good places within walking distance of BDS to have a cold one before the game, the wife and I don't know anybody over that way and hate to walk around the tailgating like a couple of lost puppies. Thanks for any info and ROLL TIDE!!:BigA:

The "Strip" is that portion of University Blvd. just west of campus--between campus and downtown Tuscaloosa.Basically, with the new plaza entrance to the stadium it is pretty much just west of the stadium. As far as places near BDS to get a "cold one": The Houndstooth is a gameday favorite. Also, there is Galettes. Both are on "the Strip." There are other places--bars and restaurants--along "the Strip." On the other hand, don't feel bad about wondering around the tailgating areas "like a couple of lost puppies." You certainly won't be the only ones. Most Bama fans are very friendly and hospitable. Walk across the Quad with that "lost puppy dog" look on your face and you'll probably get more drink offers (food, too) than you can imagine. For that matter, pack your own cooler and wonder across campus--especially the Quad with it. You'll probably get a few invitations to join other fans at their tailgate parties.

Thanks for the replies and the info, we will definitely check out the strip.:cool2: I didn't know what the policy was about packing a cooler across campus, here in Hattiesburg at USM you would more than likely get arrested or at the very least harassed. Thats probable one reason why they can only put about 15,000 people in the stands on a good day.:rolleye2: RTR
