I was more of the opposite. Brown is probably the dumbest host on the air and Dunaway is too much a homer for me to listen to. Lance was a poor man’s Sheridan. Rock Star maybe the only one I actually could tolerate but he is on the wrong kind of show.

The opening drive was okay to me until they started letting the Domer dominate the show.
The funny thing about how I see Dunaway is he is way too apologetic to everything else not Alabama. The other day he was whining about Notre Dame's arrangement with the 12 team playoff and never being eligible for a 1st round bye and how that wasn't fair.

And BamaHoHo, Wimp and Sonny were the best. In fact the best Roundtable segments were always when they would have Wimp on and he would bust their chops.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
Yeah Jay let Al run the show. The best show that was on JOX was "Wimp and Sonny". I would love to see the two of them get back together.
Love Wimp and Sonny. Couple of treasures. I'd love a show but at 83 and 84 a daily show is probably too much of an ask. Need to find a way to get them together for segments more frequently.

Sonny still does color for AU basketball though and he's still a very sharp basketball mind, but you can kind of tell age is catching up with him a bit.

I stopped listening to them the second Brown when on a tirade about how Alabama fans are too hard on Nussmeier and that he is the best OC in the Saban dynasty. That was around 2016. The show felt too much like an Alabama show at times. I want differing opinions and good ones.

Wimp does a show weekdays with his son Barry on Tide 100.9. Wimp is still pretty good. Im not crazy about Barry though. Sonny is a guest on the show every once in a while.

I must be really easy to please. I liked all the shows being dissed. I have no idea how to do a pod cast so I will just get my news from TideFans, CBS and such as that. I have learned to live without cable. If i can't get it on antenna then I listen to Eli or keep up with it on the scoreboards that show play by play. Anyway, i will cope and get by without JOX if they go kaput.
Agreed. The Round Table is a good show with a lot of good information. Some people are going to hate no matter what. Lots of good details and opinions IMO. I'm going to keep on listening and the ones that don't like can listen to Matt Murphy or whoever or listen to music.

Birmingham market and we are winning. Not sure what you were expecting.

I get it. It’s just too much stupid and no push back for my taste. In a state with two huge programs there has to be Atleast a good opposing fan out there. Especially in the biggest city in the state.

Dub, I don’t think we know how good we had it regarding Basketball with these two. That being said, I think we’ve got it good again with Oates and Pearl. Let’s enjoy all we can.

There was a thread on the rant earlier today asking which current SEC coaches you would pick to build a program from the bottom up. My obvious answer going away is Pearl since he built Tennessee into a perennial tournament team and has carried what was historically the SEC's doormat in Auburn to a Final Four.

But I went with Oats for number 2, and it isn't just gut feeling. Guy does and says all of the right things, recruits like an animal and is an excellent Xs and Os guy. He's a great coach and I would take him over everyone with the exception of ours. He's young too and imagine what he could do in a decade at his current pace.

Here's to both being good at roundball. 🍻

Oates is #1 for 1 reason -- he's never been on probation or fired for illegal activities. That cloud will follow Pearl for the rest of his life...

So since WJOX looks to be going in the tank….how did it even come to be in the first place. I remember when it was AM only and Herb Winches and Ben (?) were the afternoon slot.
Ben Cook(e) was it not? Maybe the best baseball guy they've had on the station.
I thought Barker was at his best (for me) when getting into the technical aspects of football. Something he didn't do often enough. Del Greco improved his craft over the years. Will give him that.
As for Roundtable I never thought it was particularly Alabama-centric given that it was a local show. Taylor and Brown seemed pretty objective to me and while Dunnaway let his leanings show through on occasion he kept it positive and didn't get into denigrating other programs. As a whole though I have felt the station has had a decided Auburn slant for some years now and DB&T were a pleasant haven from all that.

It was Ben Cook. Gosh I remember those days so well. I guess it was usually in the summer, but I'd be with daddy somewhere and that's what we would be listening to. AM 690, WJOX.

Takes me back to the days of the Jefferson Pilot Game of the Week with 3 guys named Dave on commentary.

"We've got a barnburner in Starkville!"
I'm getting visions of JJ Johnson barreling over hapless defenders and clumps of turf flying off Scott Field. And Eric Moulds catching passes from mediocre QBs, making really good defenses look foolish.

Those were the days.

Also being a nasty hypocrite. Ratted out several coaches early in his career, and now has done the very thing he ratted out.

Interesting side note….the article above was written after the UTe debacle, but before the Auburn one.

If he feels that moral righteousness will further his his career, he’ll do that. If he feels cheating and lying about it will further his career, no problem…he’ll do that. At least twice that we know of.

The man is (1) an undeniably good coach, and (2) amoral.
