Well I have been thinking about the Reuben Randle situation. But don't get me wrong I would have loved to have him as a Bama player and he is a great talent, but I feel that he will have a little growing pains because of his year away from playing WR. He has already been characterized as a player that will have some trouble getting off of the line in press coverage, which is probably the hardest thing to overcome in college ball. But long story short I feel that we got the better end of the deal. By losing Reuben Randle I think that it opened the door for Kenny Bell and Kendall Kelly. That gave us a great, fast slot player and a former 5-star project that following a redshirt year could end up as a better player than RR. But what is you all's thoughts?

:BigA: With our 2 quality recievers I would take the 2 for 1 deal anyday! It may have been just a good a of deal if we had just got 1 for 1 on either Kelley or Bell ! At least it was fun watching Miles pull out all stops to keep him as well as reniging on another quality reciever! To keep Randle he may have lost 3 recievers! Anyway I think we got the best end of the deal!

Look guys RR is an AJ Green kind of talent. If you watched the AA game you saw him shuck a DB clear into the sidelines with one arm on a routine play. Given a chance to shake the rust off he and JJ would've complimented each other ala Fitzgerald and Boldin. It just wasn't going to happen. I have taken pot shots at CLM before, but when he pulled DB's scholly he crossed a serious line. That move was classless, and worst of all, smelled of fear and desperation. Pulling that scholly was a clear example of CLM letting the inmates run the asylum. Miles got into a battle of wills with a player and Miles blinked. What happens when another player tries to pull some stunt? Or when RR decides he's not happy with 5 looks a game and wants more? Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should be, but I don't think so. This year's LSU team will be very interesting to watch.

There is more to the story than simply the scholarship being pulled. While it makes CLM look classless to people that are on the outside looking in, RR's brother said that everyone involved is happy.

Not doubting that there is more to this story. Given that RR and his daddy got what they wanted, I would be surprised if RR's brother didn't say that everyone involved is happy. I don't think that anyone in RR's family should be used to guage the ethics or overall satisfaction of everyone involved in this situation. I wonder what DB's family's take on this is?

By everyone, his brother also meant that DB was happy. Part of the issue that arose with DB was that he told Miles that he wanted to be one and done (i.e. no interest in going to class or even trying). Hence the DB surprise visit to Auburn. DB's coach wanted him to stick with his initial commitment, because he put in a lot of effort to get DB qualified. DB reportedly committed to Barn on his visit, but his coach tried to push him to LSU. RR, in a way, helped him by saying he wouldn't go where DB would go.

This is just what I have heard and I expect much more will come out about it soon.

To be fair, that just sound like spin to me. RR's dad comes out and says he could end up elsewhere and said they [LSU] lied about their WR depth. On signing day, Benton surprisingly sends an LOI to Auburn and had no signs of ending up anywhere but LSU for three years. What did Benton do to Randle, spit in his food in elementary school?

Reuben Randle is going to be a great SEC receiver. He chose the school he wanted to play for most. We missed out on a good one. However, don't distress about the 2 receivers we landed. Bell is going to be an excellent slot receiver. Don't expect him to come in be a world beater. Maze and Hanks aren't going to just let him be the number 1 slot guy. All three will push each other to make them all better. Now, Kelly will be a beast. He was hurt last year and that's why his stock wasn't as high on signing day. I believe Kelly would have been an easy 5 star if he hadn't been hurt. Randle is the overall best WR in this class, but Kelly and Bowman will be awesome complements for Julio. No worries at WR besides lacking in depth.

Ugh, I'm tired of talking about Randle. All we seemed to talk about up until NSD was him and TR. And now that NSD is over, I'd rather talk about TR and how he's going to be bull-dozing and shredding through defenses this fall, rather than RR's possible character issues.

Look at this way folks, if we had nabbed RR it's a possibility we would have lost out on KK and KB. KK almost certainly and if RR had chosen us then LSU definitely would have full court pressed KB to keep him. From that perspective I will take KK and KB any day over RR. KB will be the fastest player on the team the moment he steps on campus and gives us the true slot we needed. And by all accounts with coaching and work, probably with a grey or redshirt, KK could be the best receiver in this class.

Bottom line is RR is going to LSU, Miles did what he did, who cares. We got Bell, Sentimore, and Lacy. And I will take bets anyday on who will be the more important player for their respective team, Trent or Rueben.

guys, I agree that we have a fine group of WR's coming in but let's be realistic here. Rivals was saying that Randle even at 70% was uncoverable and by far the best receiver there at the US Army All American Bowl practices.

Luvs, I'm getting confused. In the above post/quote, you are talking like "we" is Bama. However, I don't think a Bama fan would say "coming to LSU" like you did in this quote:
fwiw, Tiger WR Brandon LaFell withdrew his name from the NFL Draft and is coming back to LSU for his senior season.

don't know how this affects Randle...
(I know I'd say, as a Bama fan, "going to LSU".) Not a big deal, but it just made me wonder...

Depth?

We lost only Stover and the always-injured Oakley. We just signed four 4-star WRs. I think we have a slew of WRs. I do not think depth is a problem... we just need a quality #2 guy to step up.

WRs, per tidesports:
Earl Alexander
Brandon Gibson
Darius Hanks
Chris Jackson
Julio Jones
Marquis Maze
Mike McCoy
Kyle Pennington (walk-on?)
BJ Scott (moved to DB?)
Chris Scott (walk-on?)
Travis Sikes (walk-on?)
AJ Walker (walk-on?)

...then add:
Michael Bowman
Kendall Kelly
Kenny Bell
Norwood
