Gas an oil are fungible commodities. Gas from the U.S. burns a lot like gas from Russia.
That said, you are correct. The less the U.S burns, the more we can sell to the Europeans. They are the ones who buy most of Russia's gas and oil.
I question, barring a situation like WWII, if the American people would conserve for the EU, when it's so hard to get them to conserve for themselves. I checked and we remain the largest LPG exporter, accounting for a third of the world's production. Europe is already the largest customer, at around 12.8% of our total. It's hard to see where more comes from. There was a big jump with China, after the Trump tensions eased at bit, so there's some slack there, depending on where our gas is. The rest of the exports are spread all over the globe. Bottom line, we can't really make up the Russian difference...

Earle couldn’t reply, previous thread was closed, but I meant the Russian people. There have already been several interviews with Russian citizens who are not in favor of this; how they ultimately react/respond will ultimately determine what happens in the not-too-distant future. I think most of them understand Putin is a snake, but how far they will let him go is the question.
He can’t successfully fight a war at home while fighting Ukraine (or the West), and that report about that division surrendering is a big flashing red light.
Remember that Russia is an autocracy. Demonstrating against the war is against the law, and, according to CNN, around 800 have been arrested today (there) already. Public pressure doesn't mean nearly there what it does here. However, Putin badly needs this to be over quickly and as casualty-light as possible. IF, it drags on, weighing down the Russian economy down, along with the sanctions, then, public pressure may act as a check on his actions. Right now? Nothing...

P J O’Rourke once described an on-camera interview in El Salvador. “Hi. I’m a foreigner aiming a camera at you and asking your candid opinion. God only knows who I really work for. Please badmouth your government for me.”
I suspect a similar dynamic at work here.
A while back, a public opinion pollster acting in Russia described the Russians' public reacti8on to GRU officers being involved with Skrypal.
On camera, they all said that the allegations were ludicrous. The GRU was not involved.
Once the cameras were turned off, many admitted it probably was the GRU.

Just a bunch of GIs earning TDY pay to basically enjoy Europe for a few weeks*** I mean to scare the Russians***

Announcing a deployment of random troops to Europe is more political than anything. Equipment and warheads okay, but 7k troops isn’t anything but an administration playing the “look I’m doing something more than sanctions”.

Peter Doocy just asked if Biden underestimated Putin.... and asked if sanctions will be as devastating as bombs.
He's trying to stir up red meat for the base. what a 🤬.
Maybe he is just trying to stir things up but, I'm not gonna lie, I have similar questions. I never for a second thought sanctions would work against someone like Putin. If he had any real concern for his economy he would not have started this mess. He knew sanctions would be the play and he knew no one in the world had the balls to use any real force to stop him.

I guess republicans can listen to the Chicks again...

Putin loves most republicans right now and probably hopes his actions help them.

There are going to be a LOT of uncorroborated reports over the coming days. It is going to require exceptional discernment to separate the wheat from the chaff.
his may be true (I hope it is), but I really doubt it, given the general contempt ethnic Russians have for ethnic Ukrainians. Surrendering to Ukraine surrendering to Auburn in football. Not bloody likely.
maybe russia has an eeyore problem like our football board
