How did we go from "this past season was one of Saban's greatest coaching jobs (which I and his opponent in the NCG both think)" to "Saban's losing it"?

The 2nd and 26 NCG would seem to belie the "backups aren't ready" theory.

Saban's been at this long enough to know how to push the right buttons to get the best out of our young players. I would imagine in a case like Billingsley, Saban tried absolutely everything he could to get the kid to get his mind right, and the public calling out was a last resort (which, based on JB's appalling and lackadaisical NCG performance, failed). If the WRs who Saban called out aren't wearing out the jugs machines right now, there's a UGA transfer and a group of hungry young freshmen that'll help them get to the portal that much quicker.

I'm still not sure why we're even having this discussion. The guy's only won 6 championships at UA and has been in the CFP every year but one.

wow, never thought I would read some of the things that I read. Even as a Georgia fan it is not hard to see that going 13-2 with a team plagued with injuries, a lot of underclassmen and new staff is an excellent season. SEC championship is a "slipping season?" insanity

Actually, I changed my mind. Yes, Saban is completely slacking and Alabama would be best suited to go ahead and fire him. *signed every UGA fan as well as the rest of the country*

It is a constant battle, we are a bipolar bunch, fans are either “damn the torpedoes, Roll Tide ahead!”, or “full reverse, I’m scared of doom and gloom!”

Also for fun: Shouldn't Saban get partial credit for UGA's '17 and '21 seasons, since, well, you know . . .

Probably at 35k or in an airport somewhere
...The one real weakness in the Saban process has ALWAYS been not having the backups ready. Was Mac Jones ready when we unexpectedly needed him? No...
I don't mind differences of opinion (just ask @B1GTide). I hate it when people get their facts wrong; and you have with the above.
  • Mac went a respectable 7 of 11 for 94 yards in the State game after Tua was lost
  • Western Carolina - who cares
  • In the Iron Bowl, Mac had a similar QBR to Bo Nix's DESPITE two pick sixes, the second of which was of the "only-in-Jordan-Hare" variety. Other than than that, Mac had a strong day, leading Alabama to 38 points (not including Waddle's kick return TD). Alabama lost that game because of that pick six, penalties, the then-usual nightmare on field goals (Bulovas hit the left upright on a 30-yarder with 2:00 remaining that would have tied the game), and that infamous end-of-half officiating
  • Mac eviscerated Michigan on New Years Day
Mac was more ready than any backup we've ever had other than, perhaps, Tua himself...

ETA: officiating mention in Iron Bowl bullet. How could I forget that?
