Richt said, "Everyone knows just how difficult of a job it really is."

But then Saban walked by, gave a friendly hello and told Richt he had recently been in an Athens, Ga., nightclub to watch his son Nicholas Saban's band play and said he noticed a lot of Georgia's football players at the club.

Richt was obviously taken aback by the comments. Was Saban kidding? Does Saban, who spends a lot of off time in north Georgia on Lake Burton, realize that Richt just lost Parade All-American, redshirt freshman linebacker Akeem Hebron? Hebron just transferred after being suspended for two semesters following a pair of recent alcohol-related arrests.

Richt had no comment, but witnesses said he did not appear cordial and seemed angry.

The guy seems to be bending over backwards to find something to fault Saban with. It's interesting that Nick represents 20% of the total salaries and only 1/12 of the head count...

Even if he did say it, this is no big deal. There are all kinds of clubs in Athens. Ther are "all ages" music clubs where no alcohol is served. Others require a wristband after verifying ID. They are color coded to indicate if you are of age. Just because a player is in a club to see a band doesn't mean he's drinking. And if he is of age it is none of our damn business what they are doing in a club in the off-season unless it is a violation of team rules.

Athens is a music town. The players are just like any other students and probably enjoy live music.

Understand that Glen Guilbeau is our Finebaum. Controversy is his thing and he thrives on it. He rips LSU all of the time and not all of it is fair criticism. That's why he lost his job at the big Baton Rouge paper and is now the LSU writer for the three small Gannett papers in Louisiana. But he knows how to get his articles in the news. He does it by being controversial.

Use a big salt shaker whenever you read Guilbeau's column.

Amen and amen again. Glen Guilbeau is a pot stirrer and a hack.

Let me get this straight. Richt, the head coach at Georgia, who has to deal with a hostile press, fickle fans, high expectations from his bosses, stiff SEC competition, 100 players, 200 parents, ...etc, is going to get upset if a rival coach makes an offhand comment about seeing his players in a night club? Give me a break. I doubt Richt would have given Saban's comments a first thought, much less a second.

I was in Athens for the UGA vs Vandy game in 94. I had so much fun there. There were some neat bars and clubs there. I enjoyed eating pizza at Rocky's too, the best pizza that I've eaten while I was a student at Bama.

bayoutider you are correct, i enjoy reading alot of different journalists but, guilbeau isn't one of them. he is always finding fault with everyone. i guess in these small towns it is difficult to come up with valid information.
