Saban talk on MNF Countdown/Don Shula comments during MNF

Back to the thread,,,Saban made the comments to Michelle Tafoya in a meeting they do before televised games. The one's in the booth seemed to echo what Tafoya had said before the game,so I don't see how she could have been misquoted.
Saban told Tafoya in pregame meetings that he is here in Miami for now. Also said he really misses teaching and influencing college players on the football field and off. Jets up 10-7.

So now we feel compelled to denigrate Don Shula? I suspect he's spent enough time in the football profession to form a valid view concerning the Alabama situation. We may not agree, but he's entitled and just may be correct. At any rate, just because he is Mike's father and voiced a negative view of UA, does not mean he is suddenly dumb/out-to-get-us/crazy, etc. It just seems that every time we fire someone or they leave of their own volition we immediately go "negative" on everything concerning them. The Shula's have a right (as a family) to be upset and there are some lingering negative perceptions of UA in the national media that are somewhat justified.

I'm not sure what information Don Shula had at his disposal to form his "objective" opinion. Did Don have knowledge that Mike's assistant coaches weren't making sure their units did the proper weight training? Did Don have knowledge that the blocking scheme that his son Mike was endorsing was HEAVILY criticized by some coaches in the profession that are highly respected by their peers? Did Don have knowledge that his son was playing favorites and holding some players to a higher standard than others? Did Don not watch his sons decision making in games that cost us several wins? Did Don not see that Cris Capps got worse and worse yet Mike kept sending him out there without hardly giving anyone else much of a go at it?

Don is a tee'd off Dad that is looking at the situation through Daddy Eyes so his opinion on this subject can't be objective, can't be independent and really can't be credible. Not if he had much of the above information and still held his opinion that he expressed.

I agree. Don Shula has won more football games than any other coach in NFL history. Four years ago, we were bragging because we had a Shula as our head coach. Unfortunately, Shula's comments are going to be respected by everyone but Alabama fans.

Thank you Bamabuzzard!!!

What's there to respect? It is obvious that in his statement of "They're bad and evaluators need to be evaluated etc..." that he was saying that it was a mistake to fire Mike and Mike was treated unfairly.

I can agree with the evaluators being subpar in their decision making but one of their MISTAKES was hiring his unqualified son. Anything that suggests that Mike got dealt a bad hand or was treated unfairly is a pile of monkey......hold up it's Christmas. I won't go any further with that line of thinking.

When my employer "suggests" change I'd recommend doing it. Maybe Mike will learn that the next go 'round.

With nothing to play for but a win Saban decides to kick a field goal instead of going for it on 4th and 1.

Nick...Please stay with the Dolphins.

Can't help but wonder if Saban's "I miss working with college athletes" is marking out in advance a face-saving exit path from the NFL.

And Nick wonders why reporters keep hounding him about leaving.... :conf3: Making comments like that is just ASKING for more lines of questioning and scrutiny about leaving.

Nick is definitely setting the table to exit the NFL. I doubt it's this season though.

did they say on the broadcast that Saban told Michelle in the meeting that he missed college kids? i watched but couldn't hear everything...

Merry Christmas!!!

Thankfully, I believe you have far overstated your last sentence. If for only the fact that he has now staunchly defended two sons who were fair (at the best) coaches... after they both were dismissed. Time might have been very different go back fifteen years... but now? Just don't see the respect.

Guys here's the bottom line. The talking heads will probably use what Daddy Shula had to say for a few days. They will say what they can about Bama, and then when we make the hire next week they may talk about it for a couple of days and then Bama will be forgotten by these dipsticks until next football season when we are winning again.JMHO

RTR:BigA:

Merry Christmas!

Re: Heads up: Story on ESPN MNF Countdown on whether Saban will coach Phins next yea

could everyone please read that line.....please.

Meaning there's no conract in place, there will be no announcement shortly after the NFL season is over and if we were to speak with Saban we'd basically be starting at square one since we haven't contacted him in three weeks?

So why is there such optimism with some regarding possibly getting CNS as Bama's head coach? Is it blind faith or are there concrete reasons that provide for the positive outlook. I'm remaining positive that we will get a good coach this time, but having no sources my hope is built on faith.

P.S. I think the reason so many are so skeptical is because relying on their "sources" have burned them severely during this coaching search. Twice in some cases.

Well up until his comment about "missing coaching 18-22 year old college kids" I couldn't understand the optimism either. But comments like the above just keep the flames a burning hot. Why Saban would even let a comment like this pass his lips (considering the Bama line of questioning and his STRONG FINAL denial) is beyond me. But even after this comment my gut tells me he's not coming but it appears he's definitely setting the table to make a move in the near future.

Don Shula, hear this: there is a reason you and both your sons were ran out their jobs...you guys suck as coaches. The Phins had to chase you out of town because you won 8-10 games a year and lost in the first or second round. Your place in history is over-glorified because of one perfect season and whole bunch of mediocrity from there on forward. Your sons picked up your conservative style and it got them nowhere.

well, I was basically getting at the media for saying "we won't take no for an answer" like we are constantly offering him.....which we haven't.

I believe that there's been enough parlayed through Sexton that it wouldn't take long for an offer to be made and accepted/declined.
