Saddest Part Of The Bama/LSU Game

A rematch between us and LSU does seem a little unfair to the winner on Nov. 5, but I keep reminding myself the BCSCG should be between the two best teams in the country. Anything is possible, but there is a lot of games remaining in the regular season for both. The winner of this game will also have to avoid a letdown in the next game or two; in this conference, you have to come ready to play every Saturday.

So true, and Arkansas has tripped us up the last two years.

I don't think there is any chance for a rematch. I feel that some of the coaches and other voters would refuse to vote for a rematch which would "guarantee" another SEC national championship.

I highly doubt a rematch in the BCSG. UF and FSU was the exception back in '96 but only because they from two different conferences.

Yeah, the Sugar Bowl ain't nothing to sneeze at. But we all want more around here. Just the way it is.

Where have we come when the Sugar Bowl is now the consolation prize? If you don't win it all nothing else matters. Once we win this one, we will begin to worry some lesser team will luck up and knock us out of the running. It's true, the air is thinner on the mountaintop. Although I would much rather be on the mountaintop alone staring down at the others below.

That was an "exception" because the BCS didn't exist until 1998. That rematch only happened because the Rose Bowl appeared to have 2 unbeatens & then Ohio State flopped.

What is hilarious to me is that every single argument that pro-BCS folks make is getting blown to bits as was inevitable. The claim that the BCS matches the two best teams has ALWAYS been a lie. Yet suddenly fans are seeing it and admitting what the rest of us knew over a decade ago.

OU making the BCS title game this year would be nearly as big a joke as Boise. The bigger joke is the fact OU has already pulled off the same miracle twice before. Get drilled by somebody you should beat & then fall into the game.

If any two teams other than LSU & Alabama play in the BCS title game then the claim they match up the best is a lie. And if they meet in a rematch then the claim that every game is a playoff is a lie (it is anyway but this will prove it to the most stubborn fan).

And if they split then it's even funnier because who is the champ then? If the winner of game 2 is not the champ then it wasn't a championship game was it?

Yes I do like this mess - I make no secret of it. The funnier thing would be an LSU-Oregon rematch.

Oregon/LSU would be a funny thing but that's not likely either. The way I see things is no rematch. It can't be. As bad as I want Bama to win number 14, if they loss then I would say Sugar Bowl. It just wouldn't be fair. Then when LSU loses it wouldn't be fair to have to beat them again when they didn't win the division or conference. This is a winner take all deal. No need to go further.

I understand what you are saying, but you are making a few assumptions with a number of games left on the schedule. I am completely sure that Bama is the best team in the country (in my own mind). I am not as confident that LSU is the 2nd best team in the country (yeah, that isn't going to go over well this week). Both of those assumptions can be completely blown out of the water over the next few days - to say nothing of the games that remain on our respective schedules. However, if things look like they do today in 5 weeks, your points will prove themselves out. We just have to wait and see which side wins.

But you have to remember something - it is only the fans who have continued to claim that every game counts in the current BCS format. The BCS makes no such claim. It only claims to endeavor to pit the two best teams against one another for the championship. It has no other goals. The only question that remains at the end of each season is, did it meet that goal?

Who goes to the SEC Championship if there ends up being a 3-way tie for the SEC West?

The way I believe that it works if there is a 3WT is that the team ranked highest in the BCS goes UNLESS the next highest is within 5 spots of them in the BCS...then it is decided by head to head. So let's say LSU beats us and Arkansas beats them. Arky would probably be #3, Bama #5, and LSU #7. Since Bama is within 5 spots of Arky, it is decided head to head (we beat them), so Bama goes to the SECCG. Arky really has no chance to make it to ATL if Bama or LSU wins the rest of their games in this case. Bama would be favored.

Let me start off by saying I think we win Saturday, 27-10. Should we lose a close game, I could see the new BCS standings as:

LSU, OSU, Stan, Boise, Ore, UA, OU

I see Oregon knocking off Stanford and OU taking care of OSU. Let's say Arky knock off LSU, the BCS standings could easily become:

Oregon, Boise, Arky, UA, OU, LSU

So, the question becomes after the SEC championship game, is Boise more deserving than Arky, UA, LSU or OU? I think Oregon goes but, do they deserve to go over LSU who beat them? As I've said 1 million times, lose 1 game, you have no right to complain. Therefore, we will just spank LSU and not give the humans a chance to play favorites...

Who is best in the BCS will always be a concensus belief. No matter who plays in the final game someone else will say "yeah but" (see Boise State and their following). Unless the crowned champion actually got to beat all others (not possible to play them all) someone will still claim what if. BCS is the current best indicator of who is the best. I'd prefer a one + system but who cares? The winner of this game needs to go on and claim the crown.

While this is true, if there are two undefeated teams, even if it's LSU/Boise or Alabama/Boise, there's no way a 1-loss team should be in the BCS NCG, since the Alabama/LSU loser already had their chance to prove they were better, and didn't succeed. Two undefeateds still leaves the question of 'who is better'... that question should be answered on the field, if possible.

The only way the loser on Nov. 5th gets back into the title game is if there are literally NO other undefeated teams at the end of the season.
