True, and the remainder of the year post-competition under Enos was greatly beneficial. You could see his efforts inside the pocket were noticeably elevated and observable even by the football-simple like myself. All culminating in the remarkable redemption performance in the 2018 SECC game. Then he could leave on a happy bandwagon for Norman and Riley. The record of players leaving school just before or during the season isn't good. Assuming Russell is the starter, I think Mack should consider the Jalen Hurts route. Worked out great for us and Hurts, he got a subsequent year of development under Lincoln Riley at OU, and is still beloved in Tuscaloosa.
In today's world, though, who knows what any player will do. I'm sure a bunch of other schools are already in tough with him dangling dollar bills in his face.
We’ve just got to have improved OL play. As an old guard/tackle myself (long long ago, HS), it starts up front. Everything starts there. Time to throw, holes that open for backs to move the ball. It’s everything. If the OL is going to take a step this year... It is about time for them to be getting the timing and coordination down. That would be a massive step forward.
If the standard now is, “not named starter, transfer immediately”, I think we’re gonna have to revisit how large the roster can be. Maybe even increase scholly limits.
This business of having one capable QB on the team, and then a bunch of guys who are years away, is going to make for some low odds of team success (injuries).
If the goal was to spread competitiveness around the sport and prevent dynasties from forming (doubt), we aren’t addressing the problem in the right way.
Great points. How did we get this far along, now several YEARS into the NIL/Portal world, without having more intelligent, consistent contracts? We are talking about significant money in a big time, effectively “professional” sport now. How did it go this long without some much smarter people than me locking it down a bit?IMHO, schools and collectives just have to get way smarter about NIL contracts. i.e. we are going to sign you to this NIL deal, but payments are phased over time, and any upfront money will have a buyout clause if you don't stay for the term of the contract. that way players are free to go, but if they leave, either they, or the school they are going to has to pay the buyout. Doesn't require any new laws or anything like that - just standard contract law that exists in all 50 states today.
Some are doing this now; all part of the negotiation.IMHO, schools and collectives just have to get way smarter about NIL contracts. i.e. we are going to sign you to this NIL deal, but payments are phased over time, and any upfront money will have a buyout clause if you don't stay for the term of the contract. that way players are free to go, but if they leave, either they, or the school they are going to has to pay the buyout. If I am Austin Mack and don't get the job, I am transferring as soon as possible.
That's exactly what Russell will do if he doesn't win the jo
Most of the talk we heard in the past, was not from the coaches. It was media and other talking heads. If the coach says they have improved, then likely have. They're talking the talk. But we've heard that before, only to be disappointed at crunch time to the point of embarrassment.
I hope what we're hearing is accurate. But I'm withholding judgement until I see them walk the walk against somebody that matters.
3 straight. And one was with Mack.Read that KR has been with the 1’s and they scored 3 straight TDs
1st Drive was primarily rushing and that Trae'shawn Brown at RB looks fantastic.
Defense has fought back and starting holding them to FGs and KR got greedy and threw a Pick 6 to Kirkpatrick Jr
