The best color in the sport of Football is Tony Romo hands down. For college football I would say Herbie or Blackledge.
Danielson obsesses too much on plays and he has that yankee superiority come out in his tone. I don’t know if it’s intentional but it’s something. I think added with the massive amount of commercials on CBS makes listening to Danielson worse.
I haven't heard much of Romo as a commentator but I like what I've heard.
Blackledge and Herbie get on my nerves from time to time but it really just highlights how little they usually do.
Danielson could be great with the right partner - and I'm not saying that Nessler necessarily doesn't qualify - if it were combined with a somewhat lengthy break from calling the SEC.
He knows the game and has a knack for spotting things well before the average analyst - if they would even spot them at all. He just needs to tone way back on his high-horse mode.
I think CBS does make it worse, as their entire production level is subpar on college games. You notice it even more with the B-team, which means the A-team is at least doing something right. And then there's the commercials - not just the quantity but the average length of the breaks and, especially, the handling of coming in and out of them.
