Should I skip class tomorrow? *Important*

I like the way you think :).

Well, emailing my instructors is out. Not a big deal, I'll see them the next week and explain the situation.

Easy explanation. They changed your classes to night sessions. It was their fault not yours. Tell them that was the earliest you could change your "work" schedule. Don't you and your buddy jinx us man. ;)

Have you ever heard the phrase "sometimes less is more?" Well, my point is, don't explain the situation unless you must. Being that it's the first class, your professor probably doesn't care why you missed or even that you missed at all. Unless he/she is an extremely cool professor and likes sports, which you don't know yet, don't tell him/her you missed because of the game. Just say, I was unable to make it to class last time, can I get a syllabus? Most likely, he'll ask again if anyone needs one during the second class period anyway.

Skip. No matter the level of school, the first day of class is worthless. You pick up your syllabus, get the academic conduct rules preached to you, and leave. I have yet to have a productive first class. Ever.

Very serious about education here and I say SKIP. College should be teaching you how to manage time, set priorities, and make choices when time management won't solve the conflict. Here is a chance to practice those skills. You get any guff, tell them you had an upset stomach (if you are like most on this board it'll be the truth) and didn't want to take a chance on it being contaigous. You get to see the game AND look like a concerned citizen.

The fact that you had to ask that question may well be indicative of your inability to handle a college load.

Therefore you should immediately (after 7 Jan 2010 of course) drop all of your classes, report to your nearest U.S. Army recruiting office and volunteer to serve your country in these perilous times. 4-6 years of serving in the 3rd Ranger Battalion will provide you with the skills and discipline to make such simple decisions the next time Alabama is playing Texas in the Rose Bowl for a national title.

Good luck with your military career and thank you in advance for serving your country.

Hey... I've attended college for the past 2 years and I've skipped several classes for Alabama football games. I won't skip class for a party. I won't skip class for a funeral (unless it's an immediate family member). I won't skip class for a date... But I will make Alabama football the exception!

It's not that he won't be able to handle the college load, it's just he picked a terrible time to start - almost as if he started college around the time he planned a vacation in the Bahamas.

Well, I think we are talking about skipping a class at Auburn... :D

If this is the case, then you must be intellectually challenged in the first place. Not for skipping class, but for registering at AU in the first place. So I think you should do the smart thing and drop all your classes immediately. Follow Blake55's advice and join the Army.

Hey everyone, hope you are having a good day. Here is my dilemma -

I registered for college today (not Bama), and I ended up being forced to take some night classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Problem: Bama plays tomorrow night!!! I have a party with some of my best friends that are huge Bama fans (me and him are unbeaten when we attend or watch games together, btw) tomorrow night, and if I go to this class I will miss the first quarter at best, and definitely won't be able to make the party. It's my first class session for that particular class, so it'll probably just be the teacher talking about the Syllabus and showing us the lab. Any thoughts on the matter?

ROLL TIDE ROLL!

You ARE a Bama fan...right? That question is equivalent to asking whether or not some of us are burning vacation days...

duh

I'm a teacher and I can tell you that I would be ticked if anyone showed up for my class when Alabama is playing for the national championship. You probably won't even have class because of the weather, but if you do I'd be willing to bet that your instructor will be praying that all of the other students have the same priorities as you so he/she can go home and watch the game. ;)

Haha, I'm glad everyone is in agreement here. I talked to my Dad and he is very serious about my academics...he told me "Email your instructor and skip". Well, now the problem is that I am not sure who my instructor is as it says "staff" on my paper. Looks like I'll be skipping two classes tomorrow and heading home tonight. My school has an attendance policy that is - 6 skips = okay, 7 = failed class. They might even cancel class due to weather anyway.

I agree on my thought process. I'm an A student and don't want to get off to a bad start this semester. It is obvious my priorities are not in order :). I'll be going to the party. It's funny how everyone is in agreement for this, I expected this to be 50/50.

I want to know what kind of college lets you skip 6 classes. Most of my professors at Alabama would only let me skip the number of meetings per week (so if you had a night class and it only met once, you got one time to miss and then you failed). I had a couple of classes that we were not allowed to miss. Sickness did not exist in those classes. And then I had a couple of classes that had no attendance policy because the professor thought he was smart enough to make the exams so tough that missing would result in certain failure, anyway (usually those courses were the easiest).

So for crying out loud...if you get 6 skips, there's really no question. I would suggest NOT e-mailing the professor, especially if you attend "school" at Auburn. If someone e-mailed me and said, "I can't come because I'm watching Auburn play for the National Championship," I would fail them immediately. Don't be stupid enough to offer the truth. If they ask, tell them.

You are right. Being on the President's list* is for naught. I should skip college. The US Army is my calling.

*I had to give myself a plug there :)...even though it is unofficial right now.

I'm transferring to Bama in a few more semesters fwiw.

Me and my buddy have already decided we can't let Bama lose because of academics. I have been growing a 13-0 beard for 31 days now (since the SECCG), much to the dislike of my girlfriend. I'm ready for Bama to whip Texas. I apologize for having my priorities out of whack and having to ask the board this question :biggrin2:

edit - Bf? I have a smoking hot girlfriend and he's a college athlete in Georgia with too many girls to have time for. I don't think the bf thing will fly :)

If you're looking for justification from us to us to make you fell better about skipping...that's exactly what you're going to get. Blow it off and don't give it another thought. :BigA:
