....award named after him? I was watching that clip i had down loaded "This is alabama football" and when they showed him punting and hobbling back to the sideline with that tore ACL got me to thinking.

Did Lane ever get any looks from the NFL?

Maybe a post season award. Handed out to the player that gave the most with the least. Could be a player that played through pain, or a small walk on that no one expected much from. Doesnt have to be given every year, only in special circumstances.

First time I ever saw a standing ovation for a punt. Ole Miss game in 2002.

Lane is such an awesome person! I'm sure he would be honored to have an award named for him but at the same time he would also be very *shy* about it b/c he is such an humble person.

I had a good friend who said when a coach goes recruiting that he should take a tape of Lane and tell the recruit this is what we're looking for at Bama.

I never had a knee tear but maybe someone who has could try to describe what it might be like puntong with this? TIDE-HSV I think I remember you telling that you tore yours up?

I did...

and I winced every time I saw Lane punt. I couldn't imagine doing it with a torn ACL and I had to question the official line that no further damage was possible. It's true that there wouldn't be any more to the ACL, but, basically, every time his foot slammed into the ball, his tibia would have rattled back and forth, hitting the bottom of his femur - nothing to stop it. I'm sure he damaged his cartilage further...

I heard they were going to give an award dedicated to the fortitude shown by Bearden. But, everyone's unanimous vote on the trophy, two HUGE beans, was rejected by the lawyers. Besides, anyone that earns an award by performing the way Bearden did...don't need an extra pair. :biggrin2:

I have had 4 scopes on my right knee starting in middle school as a cheerleader; I could hardly walk much less try to kick anything. I tore the menisicus in around my knee. I re-injured it during a nature hike for geology class at UA. Steve Webb had to carry me the rest of the hike on his back. I was fine for several years, then I developed a cyst under my knee cap after I had my daughter and less than 6 months later my knee cap was broken in 4 places. PAIN I tell PAIN.

I have told Lane MANY times I couldn't stand to watch him punt b/c I would cringe everytime he kicked!!!!!

Lane B is awesome

Lane Bearden is what Alabama Football is all about. Toughness and heart, and playing with all you've got, no matter how much you've got.
