First off, thanks to the board mods who have to be working OT on a holiday week. Y'all are doing one heck of a job trying to keep the board and the posters under control. Now, on to my rant.

With a third-grade education and about $50, any Bozo can line up and take a nasty, slimy shot at Shula, our players, our staff, our tradition, our stadium, our radio announcers, our university...you get the picture. Healthy discussion, disagreement and debate is needed. But most of what I'm seeing right now wouldn't qualify for any of these categories.

I'm a paying member of another popular 'Bama forum, and a very frequent reader of TideFans.com. Naturally, I've been logging on to these forums a little more than usual this week. I would have posted this over there but it would have gotten lost amid all the insults, jokes, rumor-mongering and mudslinging.

I'm really disturbed/distressed/disgusted over a lot of what I've been reading. Not so much on TideFans, but on the other boards. Suddenly, it's open season on anything to do with Alabama football. There's barely any common sense to be found these days, and a lot of people, some of whom are not 'Bama fans, are taking advantage of the situation just to stir up the crap among true 'Bama fans. But it's the "true 'Bama fans" I'm more upset with.

I can't believe the sheer volume of rumors and negative, trash-talking posts I've read about Coach Shula, his family, our players, our administration and others connected with the program. Before anybody jumps the gun, this is not a post debating the advantages or disadvantages of keeping Shula. It's just an observation I have after seeing so much vitriol posted on message boards.

I am in favor of making a change at the highest levels, but I fear that if this doesn't happen this year, our vocal "fan base" will be in full meltdown mode (yes, even worse than now) and will make a bad situation even worse. To me, this is not a joking matter. It's not funny, it's not cute and it's not clever to make jokes, personal attacks or write sarcastic one-liners about our coaches, players and admistration. This is exactly the kind of thing that our rival fans and state/national media feed on to create a negative streotype about our fan base. But honestly, I can't defend a lot of the choad I've seen posted the past few days.

I used to discount the fact that current/prospective players and media would read much of what is posted on these forums. But unfortunately they do, and they do it especially in a time like this. I'm just tired of seeing some of our fans supply the bullets for others who want to shoot The University of Alabama in the head.

I want a HC change. I think one is warranted, but thank the Lord, I am not in charge. I was part of the Dubose fax-in campaign. I learned my lesson.

Maybe it's just for reasons of my own sanity, but right now I have to blindly trust the powers-that-be and let them figure it out. Whoever takes the field next year will have my support. If we keep Shula, I won't be happy with it, but it's the only thing I can do, because I can't tell my heart not to support The University of Alabama. I'll have an opinion about it, but it will be a measured response if I'm posting on a public forum. One thing is for sure. I won't be making a jerk of myself on any website. My wife knows I can be an obnoxious prig when it comes to Alabama football. She deserves some kind of medal for putting up with me the past few years over the crap our program has been through.

But I'll keep the truly negative stuff to myself and my fellow group of friends/football sufferers, where it belongs.

Roll Tide, and if Shula stays, then Roll Tide anyway. Alabama football has always been bigger than one man, and it will take a lot more than Shula staying to bring it down.

Fact is, there are some very real issues with the Alabama football program, and they appear to be across all levels.

It seems that every sportswriter with a pen or keyboard has a "source" who is saying the exact opposite of the the other sportswriter's source. From a publicity standpoint, this most assuradly is not good for our public image.

Closing the season in hopes of a bowl game and a fresh 6-6 does not bode well for recruiting.

In all fairness, even french fry though this would be one of the worst years for us when he was busy playing with his ropes.

Now, take all of that on the surface, and I would say that CMS needs to stay another two years.

But, in addition to that, issues of discipline, inability to adjust to clear deficits on the field and in playcalling over the past few years leads me to the other side of the fence. I am not convinced that CMS can do more than ultimately keep BAMA in the middle of the road as far as the SEC goes, and occassionally win the SEC West and get a trip to Atlanta. At this juncture, I do not feel that he can lead us to an eventual NC.

But, at the end of the day, we are ALABAMA, and the coach/admin/player bashnig is truly sad. Our business is winning and we need to get back to work on that.

Maybe people will listen to what you're saying, UAtlantaTider. I hope so.

Alabama football is legendary. The program has traditionally been envied. That being the case, outsiders just love anything that brings Bama down.

It would be nice if others would recognize that if the expression of their views, in public, isn't helpful in providing solutions, then they may be part of the problem.

I would just like to say that the title you chose for your thread is offensive to all people who happen to be cavemen. You should be ashamed. Other than that I agree with your post. ;)

This is just a product of the violent, wild boys, mob mentality type society that we live in today. Kick somebody while they are down before you get kicked yourself. Only the strong will survive and the weak will be eaten. I think it's a good system!!

I just want something to happens to restore us to the place we belong with our program. I think that a different person calling the plays inside the 20 would have helped immensely this past year. There are some ***'t changes that need to be made at least this year.

That said is we can get a name in here like Spurrier, I would be elated.

Ditto what GAMEFACE said;

He hit the nail on the head. And that's why I'm not going to sweat a bunch of bullets if CMS is retained. I really believe that the admin and CMS are going to work closely together to bring in some good assts. If CMS washed his hands of play-calling and simply MANAGES the WHOLE TEAM, as I said earlier, I believe there's going to MUCH BETTER chemistry between the coaches AND THE WHOLE FOOTBALL SQUAD!
I would like to see changes from top to bottom, too. But if not, I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic that CMS sticks to his statements and TRULY changes!

Roll Tide!

Bravo, UAtlantaTide! Outstanding post! If it was all soooo easy,
and only one piece missing from the puzzle-anyonecould do it!
Thank you for acknowledging that every opinion does not have to be posted publically-here or elsewhere! Particularly when doing so gives ammunition to rivals-not only are both barrels loaded, it keeps them supplied for months to come! No barrier can stop a rolling Tide-and the Tide is not yet 'rolling' as any fan wants to see-but it will roll again!Last time I checked, this issue was not on the ballot so I don't get to vote. Every fan's choice is to either accept the decisions those who do get to vote make or not. I vote to support because I love to see those young men in Crimson and White play football! Roll Tide!

Hilarious.

Just because we do not agree with you does not mean we are uneducated, a barner, or a vol. Good grief, grow up.

This is part of the "If the coach is not getting the job done, get rid of him." mentality. They do it in the NFL every year. Shula should be used to it.....:)

OK... so even a more positive thread has to get highjacked. Warning... watch your comments about Shula and what he is... over the top ideas will get you the time out for a week infraction!!!
