The DBs may have gotten bit this past Saturday but I find it pretty hard to worry about Sabans favorite spot on the team. I don't trust beleu a whole lot but we have seen Saban work maricles with the DBs before.

Geno Smith is a future 1st round pick but even Milliner struggled in his first couple of years in spots. Belue was lost at times this past year too. A good butt kicking by the WRs now isn't a bad thing because they'll get practiced

The OL and the DBs are the "weak" spots as of right now. I think that's no big surprise.

However, the strength at other positions goes a long way towards offsetting that. QB? RB? WR? Alabama is used to requiring a great defense to win, but in this instance there's a lot of reasons to believe Alabama can win a shootout and be one dimensional on offense if they have to. Also, we're not even seeing most of a great recruiting class yet.

I think the real concerns with OL and DB are not so much that they'll struggle, I think the adjustments will be made. I think the real concern should be regarding injuries. The team can withstand injuries at some other positions, but it is a valid question to ask what things look like if areas of concern end up suffering a couple of injuries.

We suffered injuries last season which would have devastated most teams. Remember Kiper after White went down? "Without Deandre White, Alabama has no answer." Then Cooper stepped up. Wonder what Kiper's saying this year?

That is true, but I think Jess hit this point pretty well a few weeks back in that Belue is going to need a physical transformation before he can really take a major leap. Experience and scheme acclimation will help some, but he's not getting in Kirkpatrick / Milliner territory until and unless he bulks up and becomes more physical. You can't just chase all day, at some point you have to impose your will a bit.

It was unfortunate when White went down because he was starting to have it come together. Bell, Black, Cooper, Ch. Jones, Norwood, and White is a pretty legitimate 6-deep rotation. I figure most coaches go into a game wanting 6 receivers ready to play. We have 5 who have legitimate experience and one other who is as talented as the other 5.
And add Robert Foster who if as good as advertised will have a legitimate shot at getting in the rotation.

Milliner took heat in 2010 by getting burned in each of the losses but I think Belue's quality of play overall was well behind Milliner in 2010. For a guy as fast as Belue, you know he made some serious mental/technical gaffes for the number of times he was barely on camera when his man got loose deep. Milliner also possessed a far better intuition on making plays on the ball. Belue hasn't shown that ability and it is really critical for a short guy like him.

I don't know. When Milliner got burned it was the worst I'd ever seen. When Belue got burned it was usually a double moved that involved the QB scrambling. I think Belue was better overall this year than Milliner 2010. But that's just me!

Every year we seem to have boys become men.
Lately, for every major injury, we have had someone step up
to fill the gap.
Until the injury to White, Cooper was hidden in the background.
MY opinion is that White is every bit as good as we thought he could be last year.

If we put White and Cooper on the field they will get lots of attention from the opposing Defense; that ought to give our Running Backs more room to run.
OR... When they stuff the line to try to stop our Backs, someone's gonna be in single coverage, going deep. :)
Either way we should have a potent Offense next year.
