On the OL the absolute whiffs by the tackles that tended to happen against the better teams just cannot happen. I know the former QB takes his share of blame but there were times he was being hit 2 seconds after he got the snap. If you get beat that badly just tackle the guy and take the penalty. It would be better than having a QB with a concussion. Plus it's been a while since one of the OL just had this nasty disposition that infected the rest.

This right here, along with appropriate play calling, will help the offensive line tremendously. I tend to think the play calling was hampered by our inability to complete quick short passes, but there were numerous times I was banging my head against the wall at our routes on short downs and we’re throwing 20+ yard passes. Complete drive killers. I think we’re going to be better in all three phases of QB, offensive line, and play calling.

Pretty common to have vets leading drills until order is determined with PT on the field.

IOW, until we have some games I'd be shocked to see nothing but Vets/upper classmen leading the way like that.

nothing new. Have always had the veterans/starters leading the way in drills.

Gotta be.

Mack is 6’6 and Keelon is 6’3 but that angle makes them look the same.

Ty is 6’2 and only 1 inch shorter than Keelon.

I considered that, but TS is in the middle. If they were all the same size Mack would probably look the shortest in the background and KR the tallest in the foreground.

But we know Mack is 6' 6" and Keelon is 6' 3". I thought Ty was 6' 2". But in the pick he looks several inches shorter than KR.

The sooner KR gets up to speed the better. I saw a video of him flicking the ball around the practice facility. Talent is there.

Hopefully he gets into games and Simpson puts up impressive enough numbers to get drafted.

Keelon may have grown an inch and I think Ty is likely closer to 6’1”.

 

[4Q Basket Case]

I'm not sure last year's playcalling was deficient. Execution definitely was. I can't count the number of times that receivers were running free and clear 5 - 15 yards downfield, open for an easy first down. Yet the QB threw long into coverage.

I also think that in the latter third of the year, DeBoer and Sheridan essentially gave up and called the handful of plays that the QB could actually execute.

The OL wasn't great, but it's hard to block against an 8 or 9 man box when the D knows the chances of a mid-range completion are slim to none.

It'll be interesting to see this year's O. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Late Add: I might do an imitation of Fred Sanford's heart attack the first time we hit a quick slant over the middle, or the QB throws to a safety-valve RB out in the flat. It's gonna happen. I know it will.
