A friend whose wife is a bit of a tree hugger asked for a .177 pellet gun for Christmas "for squirrels and sich."
A 410 shotgun works better...you don't have to be as good of a shot.A friend whose wife is a bit of a tree hugger asked for a .177 pellet gun for Christmas "for squirrels and sich."
A problem in most city limits...A 410 shotgun works better...you don't have to be as good of a shot.
This particular air rifle actually had a scope, which was unusual.A 410 shotgun works better...you don't have to be as good of a shot.
My friend's air rifle is quite nice. It is fun to plink with.I traded mine in on a 9mm handgun, but it was a German-made Diana by RWS. It was also scoped and very accurate. I sometimes wish I'd held on to it...
That's what I have, in .22. It's quite effective.I traded mine in on a 9mm handgun, but it was a German-made Diana by RWS. It was also scoped and very accurate. I sometimes wish I'd held on to it...
I've thought about another one. Is the .22 subsonic? It might be quieter than the .177...That's what I have, in .22. It's quite effective.
Yah, it's in the 800-900 fps range. I don't think the .177 is faster than about 1k fps so it should also be subsonic. You might have had a special rifle if you were hearing the crack.I've thought about another one. Is the .22 subsonic? It might be quieter than the .177...
The model 34 I had was rated at 1100+. It was loud...Yah, it's in the 800-900 fps range. I don't think the .177 is faster than about 1k fps so it should also be subsonic. You might have had a special rifle if you were hearing the crack.
Yeah, that sucks. Unnecessarily fast and far louder than I'd want. The model 34 I had was rated at 1100+. It was loud...
That was one thing which made it easier for me to let it go. It was essentially as loud as .22 LR. The .177 was very flat-shooting, however...Yeah, that sucks. Unnecessarily fast and far louder than I'd want.
The.22 isn't silent, but it's definitely slower than mach 1 and has great knock-down power on small pests.
My son just finished reworking an early 1900s .22 rifle that had been neglected for more than 50 years. We were shooting it off our back deck yesterday (targets) and it is very quiet. Now, we were using the slower ammo, but our neighbors can barely hear anything when we use the slower ammo. Heck, you can't hear it at all inside our home if the windows are closed.Yeah, that sucks. Unnecessarily fast and far louder than I'd want.

I've seen it before and some similar ones. I like the one where the feeder starts rotating rapidly until the squirrel is finally thrown off. Here:Earle, with a little tweaking, I think you could do this:
