State of Alabama defense

Tebow said no one in the CFP will be able to do what Florida can do offensively, because no team Alabama will play has two players like #84 and #1. He also said no one does what Mullen does offensively. I hope he's right, but the designed QB runs Clemson does is exactly type play we have yet to be able to stop. That's what scares me.
If Clemson has to beat your defense with QB runs, you kill them. You have to beat Alabama with big plays, not with 5 yard QB runs.

Also, let's remember that even with Trask's quick release (dude is as fast as anyone I have ever seen), you had 5 sacks last night while almost never blitzing. That is impressive. You just need better play from you DBs. And, if the problem really was Pitts/Toney, it is fair to say that no other team in the hunt has anything close to that combo.

Our offense will literally have to score every time to stay in the game with Clemson. Their offense will give Golding's defense repeated enema's for four quarters. If we couldn't stop a statue of a quarterback in Trask, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is going to run wild on us. He TORCHED ND's defense all day yesterday.
Yeah, but ND was a fraud.

84 and 1 is as good as it gets. I hope both of them go to the League. We had 84 covered well for a half but could stop 1, cover 1 then 84 and 8 thrives. I don’t think Clemson has anything like that or anyone else has anything like that to be honest. We just didn’t put enough heat on Trask. LSU gave us the blueprint and we didn’t follow through. Golding has to realize what’s going on and look into other team’s successful rates on stopping other teams Or something. Now, going up 28-10 or 35-17 would cause a defense to relaxant that’s understandable in most cases, but thats not enough points for today’s game. We can’t rely on the offense all the time, especially in the third quarter when our offense stops by the Varsity to get a bite to eat Instead of playing the game. Glad we won the SEC! Roll Tide! Let’s go and win it all.

Florida has more offensive weapons at receiver and tight end then anyone in college football that includes us. Pitts is a nightmare to cover 6’6 and can run like a wide receiver. Branch was in perfect position on the one touchdown he had but Trask threw it in perfect location and Pitts went and got it. They move Toney all over the field trying to get him in mismatch on either safety or Moore. They also have Shorter at wide receiver he didn’t do much last night but this guy was the number 8 recruit in the country coming out in 2018. They also have Copeland who was top 50 recruit that same year. Grimes was the number 4 wr coming out ahead of Ruggs and Smith in 2017 as well and went to Ohio State before transferring back to Florida. Clemson has a more balanced run pass game but they don’t have the same talent on the outside.

Trying to find the silver lining, as long as Alabama doesn't draw Ohio State or Clemson in the first round the defense should be fine. That gives them more time to try to do what ever they need to do to get ready for what could be the best offense Alabama plays all year.

The other side, the counter argument to Florida possibly being the toughest matchup would be the Ole Miss game. Ole Miss has a good offense and a good quarterback, but I don't think they have the weapons an Ohio State or Clemson team has.

The defense just has to get better. Golding has to get better.

I am not sure what blueprint people talking about in the LSU game. Trask had almost 500 yards passing and that was without Pitts playing. Pitts playing is a game changer type player that you have to adjust the defense to. We tried about everything on him with Surtain on him then Moore then Branch. Pitts is going to be a future star in the NFL and will be even a matchup nightmare there.

I am with you but once they missed the chip shot field goal they reminded me of us in the championship game after we missed the extra point. Lost confidence in kicking field goals and just had to go for it. I think that took some wind out of their sails a little. Very deflating play in my opinion. They were probably still going to lose but mentally they were beat after that.

Yes, and Clemson is a better team in every phase of the game than Florida. It isn't close.
Clemson’s offense isn’t as good as Florida’s. Maybe more balanced run/pass. Lawrence is obviously a better NFL prospect. But I think collectively, Florida is the best offense we will see. Not saying Clemson is so far behind them, mind you.

Obviously Clemson’s defense is worlds better than Florida.

Did you watch the game and appreciate the circumstances? LSU had no secondary, they were down two of the guys from when they played Alabama and the secondary was really bad that game (Mac had 385 yards and 4 TDs).

So, what LSU did was not rely on their secondary to make plays, they forced Trask's hand. That resulted in 4 punts and 3 turnovers, and remember the LSU offense wasn't holding the ball like Alabama was. So what LSU did was with a much, much, much, much worse secondary, they held Trask to a 66.5 QBR. They held Florida to 34, meanwhile Alabama gave up 46 on a 91.4 QBR. To reiterate, this was with LSU playing fourth stringers on their secondary!

Why is everyone scared of Ohio St. Tell me what they have done to scare you so much.
They have tons of talent on offense and every offense Alabama has played with a pulse has put up points.

All of this is based on opinion and speculation. We should beat ND by 14+ points and Clemson will beat tOSU by a like score. This will pit us against Clemson, again. We saw what they did to us in 2018, against another Alabama team without much defense. I am not picking a winner, but the better defense will win because both offenses can score at will.

They won that game because your offense was a one trick pony. Your offense is light years better this year than in 2018.

Going forward the one team out of the 4 other possible teams that worries me the most from a defensive stand point is Clemson. Lawrence and Etienne are matchup issues. Lawrence more from a running standpoint because the receivers for.Clemson are not as good as what we faced last night. Florida gave Clemson the recipe for QB runs last night. Spread us out and the middle will be vacated. Etienne both as a runner and receiver. Moses and Harris will have to play really well to limit his production and to this point not sure they can, particularly Moses.
ND doesn’t have the outside receivers to cause problems and Booke doesn’t scare me throwing the ball or running.
Ohio State does have weapons but don’t think they have enough. Can they put up points, yes but I do think we can stop them enough to win comfortably. Sorry OSU guys, not trying to sale the Buckeye’s short, JMO.
We have seen Mond for four years and we know what he is. Receivers don’t worry me. Running game is their best weapon on offense and the run defense doesn’t worry me like the pass defense does.
What we learned from last night is we have to come up with a better method of leaving the middle vacated on QB runs and not allowing us to get outnumbered when teams spread the field. This will be critical going forward whether we face Lawrence or Fields and maybe even Booke. If we can make these QB’s one dimensional and not allow them to run successfully, particularly Lawrence and Fields we win it all.

Looking around the SEC last night, it looked mostly like Jr High and High school basketball scores. Sad the league has become the B12. Also sad, the best defense is not played in the SEC anymore. And, I concur on what some have said. The Golding experiment should stop, so pull the funding and close the doors. No progress is being made, and it’s going nowhere. Make him an analyst or whatever, just keep him off the field.

Fair point. I think I turn the TV after that. I felt it was over after they kicked off. lol Funny though that Clemson still only score minimal points after that, as minimal as 34 can get. I think we could hang 50 points easily on that team, actually both.

Getting to Trask. Forced him to throw the ball off balance and resulted in turnovers. Our defense is better than LSUs. We have way too many play makers. Speaking of Pitts, he’s a wonder and TE and thankfully, he’s opting out to work on going to the league. He won’t be back next season. Just hope Toney follows.
